The mind was quite a powerful thing.

Or atleast Y/N's mind was.

Lately, Y/N had been experiencing peculiar events in her life. Initially, she brushed them off as just mere coincidence, but as these occurrences multiplied, she couldn't continue playing that card. It was as if her thoughts held a strange sway over reality. She knew how outlandish it sounded, crazy even, but hear her out!

These incidents had become too frequent and undeniable to ignore. She had no idea why this was happening, and the fear of being labeled insane and confined to a psych ward had kept her silent. But honestly, she didn't mind it at all. Granted it was not like they were anything bad. These newfound abilities made her everyday life easier, that was it really, no harm in it at all.

It all started a few weeks ago. Y/N found herself sprawled out on her couch, cocooned in a fluffy blanket as she watched the TV. Arms were tucked snugly inside the blanket as her eyes kept drifting closed, but the loud laugh tracks and bright light emitted by the TV wouldn't allow her to peacefully doze off. She knew she shouldn't be taking a daytime nap, but her cozy setup made it tempting.

See, she was positioned just right. Her head angled directly facing the TV laid on the chilly armrest, with her legs bent to fit onto the relatively small couch, and the blanket perfectly draped, warming her while the spinning fan above her cooled her down. Even her hands were set comfortably, that she knew if she moved it could ruin the arrangement she fine-tuned.

So the dilemma she faced was shutting that damn TV off. The remote control was thrown somewhere on the floor, out of reach unless she disrupted her carefully arranged comfort – something she was unwilling to do.

In a last- ditch effort, Y/N willed the TV to turn off on its own. It was a silly notion really, she swears. She'd already decided she was going to fall asleep with the illuminated screen in her face and the muted conversations of the characters she managed to fade into background noise. She glared at the TV, as if her stern gaze would cause it to listen to her. But to her surprise, after locking her exhausted eyes onto the TV, the screen unexpectedly went black. The living room darkened as the sole source of light suddenly disappeared.

Now although Y/N wishes came true, she was relatively confused because what. Her mind could not, and did not want to understand how that just happened. She was running on three hours of sleep from the previous night and did not have the brain capacity to process it. Yet, just as she was nodding off into slumber, it hit her.

It was simply really – the power went out and the TV had followed suit.

Y/N wasted no time succumbing to sleep, surrounded by the sounds of the periodic beeps of her digital clock, the gentle whir of the fan circulating cool breeze, the distant hum of the refrigerator from one room over, the reassuring soft glow of her plugged-in nightlight that was shining in the bedroom, and her iPhone successfully charging right beside her.
