Third Person POV:
The night air was cold, the sky an inky black, dotted with stars that twinkled like distant promises. The only sounds were the rustle of the leaves, Daisy's soft snores from down below, and the steady rhythm of Joost's heartbeat beneath your ear. You both lay there, nestled on the platform of your tree, the world around you quiet and still, as if it was holding its breath just for the two of you.
Joost was leaning against the tree trunk, and you were curled up in his lap, your head resting against his chest. His hand moved in slow, soothing circles on your back, tracing patterns that made you feel safe, comforted, as if all the worries that had plagued you earlier were far, far away.
You tilted your head up, catching his gaze, and there was something playful in your eyes, a spark of mischief that made him raise an eyebrow in curiosity. "What?" he asked, his voice soft, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Do you want to have a sleepover?" you asked, your tone light, almost teasing.
He blinked, taken aback for a moment. "Right now?" he asked, glancing around as if to remind you that it was the middle of the night and you were both high up in a tree.
"Yeah." you said, your grin widening as the idea took hold. "Why not? We can set up a tent in the yard, like I used to do when I was a kid. It'll be fun."
Joost looked at you, a mixture of amusement and affection in his eyes. "A sleepover in a tent, in the middle of the night? That's what you want to do?"
You nodded eagerly, your excitement contagious. "Exactly. We'll sneak down, grab the tent, and set it up."
He chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Alright, why not? I'm in."
You both carefully climbed down from the tree, trying not to make too much noise, though the quiet giggles you shared made it difficult. Daisy stirred slightly but didn't wake, still lost in her own peaceful dreams. Once your feet hit the ground, you gave Joost a quick, excited look before leading him to the small shed where your childhood tent was stored.
The shed creaked as you opened the door, the dim light of the stars barely illuminating the old, familiar space. You rummaged through the shelves, searching for the tent, while Joost held the door open, his eyes scanning the various tools and toys that had been tucked away over the years.
"Here it is." you whispered triumphantly, pulling out the faded tent bag from the back of the shed. The fabric was a little worn, the colours slightly faded from years of use, but it was still sturdy, still capable of holding the magic of a night spent under the stars.
Joost grinned as he took the tent from you, the excitement clear on his face. You both headed back outside, Daisy trotting along happily beside you now, her tail wagging as if she sensed the fun you were about to have. The tent was a pop-up one, and with a few quick shakes and some laughter as it tried to spring open in your hands, you managed to set it up in the perfect spot under the open sky.
The tent was smaller than you remembered, the years making it feel cozier than before. But that only added to the charm of the night. The three of you—Joost, Daisy, and you—squished inside, the space tight but comfortable, as if the closeness was part of the magic. Daisy curled up at your feet, her soft snores quickly filling the tent as she drifted off to sleep.
You and Joost lay side by side, your bodies pressed together in the snug space, both of you looking up through the mesh cutout on the roof of the tent. The stars were scattered across the sky like tiny diamonds, twinkling against the inky blackness. The cool night air seeped through the tent's fabric, but the warmth of Joost's body next to yours kept you cozy.
