make your mother proud.

Third Person POV:

You lay in bed, your fingers gripping the covers tightly as you stared at the ceiling of your childhood bedroom. The familiar creaks of the house and the distant sound of the wind through the trees usually brought comfort, but tonight, they only made the knot in your stomach tighten. You were terrified. It had just hit you—really hit you—what you had agreed to. The excitement of the moment had carried you away, but now, alone in the stillness of your room, the reality was sinking in.

Your mum didn't even know about you and Joost being... well, together. She probably still thought you were just old friends reconnecting. The thought of explaining everything to her made your heart race. How could you tell her that you weren't just leaving the farm, but leaving with Joost—to Rotterdam of all places? A life far removed from this quiet, predictable one you'd known.

How would she react?

You rolled over, pulling the covers tighter around you, trying to find some semblance of comfort, but it was impossible to shake the growing anxiety gnawing at you. Maybe... maybe you didn't have to tell her the whole truth. You could always lie, say you were just going back to your place, to go back to work. It wasn't completely untrue. And not mention that you were going to Rotterdam with Joost. Just keep that part to yourself. At least for now.

The idea felt wrong, though. Hiding it from your family. But the thought of telling them the truth felt even scarier. What if they didn't understand? What if they thought you were making a mistake? You weren't even sure if you fully understood what you were doing.

You sighed, rolling onto your back again, your mind racing. It would be so much easier to lie, to keep things simple. But at the same time, you hated the thought of hiding such a huge part of your life from your family, from your mum who always seemed to have one eye on you, even when you didn't realize it.

But what would you even say? Hey, mum, by the way, I'm leaving with Joost, who I'm dating now, and we're heading to Rotterdam for his show. See you when I see you!

No. That wasn't going to fly.

The weight of the decision pressed down on you, and you closed your eyes, trying to steady your breathing. You didn't want to disappoint anyone, especially not your family. But you also didn't want to let fear make decisions for you.

As you lay there, torn between the two worlds, you felt the enormity of it all. The life you'd known versus the unknown future with Joost. The thought of being with him excited you, made your heart race in the best way possible. But leaving everything else behind? That was terrifying.

You had no idea how you were going to get through tomorrow, let alone the conversation that was coming.

A grunt escaped your lips as you pushed the gate to the cattle closed, the heavy wood creaking as it settled into place. You sighed, resting your forehead against the rough wood, feeling the weight of everything pressing down on your shoulders. The cool air brushed against your skin, but it did little to calm the swirling thoughts in your mind.

Suddenly, you felt arms wrap around your waist, pulling you up from the ground. A startled scream escaped your lips as you were lifted off your feet, your heart racing with both fear and surprise. Your body tensed for a split second, instinctively fighting the unexpected grasp, until you heard the familiar, warm laughter behind you.
