"WE'VE INVITED SOME PEOPLE OVER, it's been long enough. It's time we start making friends— all that stuff." Rico attempted to explain to his siblings sitting at the breakfast table.

Eden snickered, lowering her head over her plate. "No offence, but we're kind of really fucking terrible at socialising."

"You are." Micah interjected, pointing his fork in her direction. "I'm really good with people."

"Yeah, I just don't want to do this. My wife just flew home with my daughter— I'm sad." Landon voiced.

"Mila." Their sister sighed longingly, frowning at the revelation. "Tell Lyssa I'll buy their flight back right now."

"Someone has to look after her mum." Eden's lips parted, before she could get her word in, Landon continued, "no— her mother doesn't want to move here."

"Unfortunate." The girl mumbled.

"You all have the attention span of children. Dinner tonight, be home." Rico demanded, "yes, Micah and Eden, I'm talking to you. No disappearing mid-party."

"But it's my birthday today?" Eden remembered, "maybe I had my own plans?"

"Own plans? You don't even have your own friends. What were you going to do? Find a mall and shop your little heart out?" Her oldest brother quipped, leaning over the table to intimidate her.

Eden chuckled, "duh? I didn't become rich for no reason."

"Happy birthday to Eden!" Micah chirped, "as your birthday present, I'll drive you to the mall."

"You're only volunteering because you know I'll buy you what you want. That's barely a birthday present."

"Be home at five or I'm taking car keys." Rico implemented his conditions before removing himself from the table.

Micah and Eden shared a look, a fit of laughter following directly after. "He knows we're not children, right?" The girl probed, her hand still over her mouth.

"I said five!" Rico yelled at them.

"I said five." Micah mimicked under his breath, standing up and placing his plate in the sink. "I will wait for you outside."

"Would you like to join us?" Eden asked Landon, copying Micah's actions. "You don't get a choice, hurry up."

Now Eden has no idea how she got here, clearly Micah did though. With their backseat filled with bags of clothes and shoes Eden either did not need, or would only wear once, he explained how they had one more stop.

She didn't plan a final stop— and it was almost four-thirty. Fine, they laughed in Rico's face about his curfew, but both were afraid to break it.

Micah pulled into a walmart parking lot next to a towing truck. The girl rolled her eyes, burying herself in the bags she'd fought the urge to go through.
