"What you saying Ma" Rio greeted leaning over the bar planting a kiss on her cheek. "Nothing much what's up," she questioned flashing him a sarcastic smirk, sliding him his usual drink.
It all started around two years ago, when Leilani had freshly moved to Detroit.

She was doing her weekly food shop at Fine & Frugal when him and his crew caught her eye, they where hauling duffels while leaving the back rooms of the grocery store. It was clearly shady. Leilani always thought the suburbs had a weird way too rationalise everything. Never would the privileged white folk who live round here expect anything even mildly dangerous to happen around them so they come up with bizarre excuses for everything, it's like they enjoy being ignorant. To them they could just brush this off as a group of mildly scary tattooed men from the city getting ready for a trip or something. But to Leilani it was clear they had some sort of connection with the business. The owner could owe them money, it could be embezzlement or money laundering. whatever it was it was shady as fuck.
Rio felt eyes on the back of his neck, looking back he noticed her brown eyes quickly shifting away, almost too obviously. Of course he had to approach her face painted with his signature smirk. Why was she staring at them normally no one round here even dares to look at them, what does she think she know what the fuck does she know. As he neared, her eyes widened a mix of worry and something else Rio couldn't quite pin. No doubt she was worried but she wasn't stupid nothing would happen to her right now she thought. They where in a public setting plus she hadn't done anything wrong. She can simply play this off by acting clueless, men are actually stupid act like a bimbo and no one bats an eye no matter what you do. "What's got your attention, sweetheart?" His deep voice inquired with a hint of amusement. "Hm" she responded indifferently, looking up at him through lashes.
"You where staring,"
"Ohhh... sorry I didn't realise," she held his gaze flashing an over the top smile. Holding up her ditsy act. Rio huffed hoping for a more interesting interaction with the curly headed woman. Leilani doesn't know what came over her maybe it was desperation maybe it was intrigue but she suddenly realised he was a chance. Before he turned around she stopped him. The bar where Leilani was putting in hours could now just be an opportunity for her it was mismanaged and she means REALLY mismanaged, like barely staying afloat and leaving the books out wherever mismanaged. Perhaps she could figure out something that benefited her, the man in front of her and the Bar not that they had to know.
Rio had been intrigued by her boldness, that day ended with them coming up with there current agreement. Leilani manipulating the books at Charlie's making money for herself and for Rio. Sure it wasn't the usual way he went around starting business with people but he's sure as hell lucky he didn't brush her off. Rio sees her as one of his smartest associates, whenever there was a problem she wouldn't come running to him crying, she'd figure it out she would always figure it out. Even though he'd never admit it she became one of his most trusted men or you know women, at times he would even loan money from her which he would always payback promptly he respected her like that.present day: Febuary 6th 2018
He doesn't reply right away his eyes lingering on the drink infront of him letting out an exasperated sigh. Rio meets her eyes offering a sympathetic smile. "Okayy... Rio whats up?" she asks again her confusion clear in her voice. He seems annoyed about something, early on she picked up on how he'd drag out his sentences and generally be more slow and calculated with his movements when he was annoyed plus 4pm thats wayy earlier than his usual wings. Somethings up. She scrunches her nose concern starting to creep in, he clocked her concern almost instantly. It was scary to her how this man always read everyone like a book, he always seemed to predict her reactions and feelings. Rio never understood why he payed attention to every detail about her he just did. "Nah, nah don't worry Lei its nothing like that," Rio reassured her. "mm" she hums in response. "I just need your help with something"
"how much d'you need," she cut him off before he could continue
"nah its not like that either, iv got a job for you,"
"what do you mean?" She leans in resting her elbows on the counter.
"Listen, Lei you gotta babysit some suburban bitches for me." cutting right to the point I guess, the previous tension he held melted away. He looks back at his drink pouting obviously trying to hold back a smirk. Acting like the absurdist shit ever did not just come out his mouth.
"Motherfucker what," Leilani couldn't help the laugh escaping her lips making Rio crack as well. Narrowing her gaze she looks back up to him again and now slowly repeats herself"Rio the fuck ?"
He goes on to explain how these girls well moms hit fine and frugal stealing around 500k of Rios money. In any other scenario Leilani knows he would not fuck around, and people wouldv been hurt by now. She's come to learn in no way shape or form would he take disrespect like that. However the humour of his current predicament was definitely not lost on him, the only reason he's even given these girls a chance is because he's curious and kinda amused at the thought he has some random white moms running around doing "errands" for him. He moves on to explain how he's got them going to Canada too pay off there debt.
"And what's all this gotta do with me," she cuts off, the bar was starting to get busy and Rio still hadn't gotten to the actual point yet. Everyone might think he's a calculated gang banger but in reality he waffled so much. That man just does not stop running his mouth, well not round Leilani anyways.
"like i said you gotta babysit them up north," He said even though it still made no sense.
"There grown ass women" Leilani deadpanned letting out a small huff, she sometimes really didn't understand this man his constant nonchalant attitude did not help either. Rio airily grinned at Leilani's raised eyebrow.
"They tried paying there debt with like a vintage doll or something," he paused letting her soak up the information "actually my bad vintage DOLLS that they robbed of an old lady," he smiled sweetly passing back his cup for a refill. Leilani had to swallow back her laughter again instead letting out a contemplative hum.
"okay i get it i get it, ill handle it for you don't worry" He never did worry when it came to her
"So I'm going Canada too make sure they don't pull some stupid shit like that."
"yup ill text you the details,"
"alright then," The two agree before Rio heads out leaving her with a simple head nod
