I remember it like it was yesterday.
Pulling up to the day camp,
Getting checked in,
Slapping my name tag on my chest,
And sitting down in the circle of kids.
"Let's all introduce ourselves!"
Our counselor beamed, looking around the circle.
"Say your name and a fun fact about you!"
I groaned internally, preparing my fun fact as one by one
The kids introduced themselves.
"My name is Nova, and... I like books."
I actually love books.
I love the feeling of getting lost in the pages.
Writing is almost the same.
When I write I'm no longer Nova,
I'm whoever I want to be.
I missed what the next few people's names were,
But that does 't really matter.
I'll figure it out eventually.
The next girl who begins to speak is from my school.
I've seen her around in the halls of Park Elementary & Middle School.
She's short, her hair long and brown cascading down her back.
Her eyes are blue.
So impossibly blue.
They look like the sky.
"I'm Fluer!" She says excitedly.
"And I... have 2 cats! Moon and Lily."
Cats.
I like cats.
