"That's amazing— such a casual setting for something that would become so iconic for the album." Zach says with a small chuckle."Yeah, intro was just a tiny thing put together by me, Victoria, and my good friend Tommy. I cant stress enough how much I love to work with them, they actually helped me with my first album as well which again— I'm so grateful for."
"Well speaking of iconic things being put together— let's talk about the track that I think really set the stage for this album: Problem."
Ariana smiles at the mention of the first single of the album. She lets out a small giggle as she begins to remember as to how the single came to be.
Zach reciprocated the excitement that showed on Ari's face while he continued, "When 'Problem' dropped, it was everywhere. It became an anthem almost overnight. What was the inspiration behind that track, and did you ever expect it to blow up the way it did?"
Leaning back against the leather cushion, she took a deep breath while she reflected over the track. "That record truly was such a turning point for me. It was my first single on the album and I was able to work on it with Iggy."
"How do you think the single drastically turned when in the process of creating it?" he continued to add.
"Honestly? I never imagined it would resonate with people the way it did. The whole concept of the song was about dealing with the push and pull of a relationship and that feeling of being torn between what you want and what you know is best for you. I think that message really connected with a lot of people."
Zach nodded, clearly intrigued by her insight. "And the decision to bring in Iggy Azalea—how did that collaboration come about?"
"Well funny enough, the first time I met Iggy was at the EMA's in Amsterdam. I thought she was the coolest and I knew that I had wanted to work with her. I was in the studio with Vic actually finishing up with intro and she happened to be there."
flashback
I'll give you all I have
And nothing less I promise
Love me and don't look back
I want you with me on this road to the sky
We'll be shining every night I promise you
Just me and you
Oh I promise you."Yes yes! You killed it Ari!" Victoria exclaims while the brunette walks out of the mini booth; an annoyed expression was written on her face.
"I'm not feeling this song anymore. Especially with what happened a few weeks ago." It had been two weeks since Ariana caught Jai dismissing her at the event.
Ariana had wanted revenge.
Since that day Ariana kept herself standing tall and occupied by writing music. Angry music to be more specific.
"I love you girl, but you got the angelic voice of a pop goddess.. not the horrifying metal scream like korn." Ariana huffed.
"This song was originally about him.. He doesn't deserve to have a cute song written for him." she says while plopping herself down on the couch, grabbing a water bottle from the mini fridge.
"Well who said it had to be about him? Shouldn't the song be up to anyone's interpretation? You can change the muse." Ariana had looked up to see Victoria with a cheeky grin on her face.
"Why not make the muse Zayn?" Ari had sighed and rolled her eyes. "I hardly know the guy."
"Exactly. He hardly knew you yet threw a punch at the guy who hurt you. Actions speak a lot louder than words y'know."
The day after the event had taken place, news articles were published and headlines were thrown all over social media of Zayn knocking out Jai. Every now and then Ari would recall of the time the two shared at the garden, replaying the words that left his mouth:
