"Again, Problem has got to be one of those songs that just never get old." Zach says while Ariana quickly gazes at her phone. Her brows furrow as she notices that she received an email. Before being able to further look into it, Victoria cleared her throat which brought Ariana back to reality. "Yes! Sorry. If I'm being honest, overtime for me at least, it got tiring." She answered while bringing her full attention to the interviewer.
"I will say, a song that I personally think hasn't gotten enough recognition is hands on me." she added. Zach was slightly taken aback.
"Really? What specifically about that song do you feel that the people listening should have taken?" he then asks.
"Uhm." she paused momentarily, "I mean the song itself is a bold and energetic track I feel compared to a good majority of my songs. I mean aside from it basically being about wanting someone to have their hands on me— The song is just very upbeat and I just had a great time recording the track."
Zach nodded as he readjusted himself in his seat. Prior to this interview, Ariana and the interviewer were fairly close around this time in her career. To some extent, Zach did have the knowledge of the inspiration behind this specific track.
"So when you were creating 'Hands on Me,' what kind of headspace were you in? It seems like such a bold track, both in its message and the sound. I'm curious—was there a specific inspiration or moment that pushed you to experiment with blending that R&B vibe with your usual pop style?" he asks, wanting to dig a bit deeper into how this track came to be.
Ariana gulped down the lump in her throat noticing the slight change in his question. She did her best to remember her media training.
"I think at the time, I was really excited to explore something a bit more edgy and different from what people were used to hearing from me. You know, I've always loved blending different genres, and with this song, I wanted to experiment with that R&B energy but still keep it fun and flirty, like the pop side of me. As for inspiration, it wasn't necessarily one specific moment—it was more about pushing myself out of my comfort zone and seeing how far I could go musically." Zach nodded intently. He was fairly impressed with her response to which he then playfully asked
"Well I mean surely to make a track as fun and flirty there had to be some sort of specific moment with someone?" Ariana then squinted her eyes at the interviewer and let out a giggle.
"You're not gonna be able to get that out of me Zach." he then laughs alongside her.
"You can't blame a guy for trying. But back to the song; how did ASAP Ferg become apart of the track?"
"Working with him really added a whole new layer to the track, I think making it bolder. I loved the energy he brought onto the track. During the process of making the song I had it pretty much finished but I just remember being in the studio, really vibing with it, but at the same time I also felt like there was something missing."
flashback
Ariana stands in front of the microphone in a dimly lit studio, her headphones perched lightly on her head as she sings one of the verses of "Hands on Me." Her voice flows smoothly, capturing the rhythm of the song, but she pauses midway, furrowing her brow slightly as she adjusts her stance.
Trembling, when you touch
Rush is racing, body baking
Picture me and you making
Making sweet love
Baby give it to me
Eyes on me, dance on me tonight
You're all, all on me
Keep your hands on meShe sang with her lips against the microphone as she visualized the inspiration for the lyrics. The night that Ariana went out dancing was all she had thought about for the past week. She had not seen him since.
