ALEX STARES AT HER BROTHER BLANKLY AS HE RECOVERS FROM TRIPPING OVER THE FLOOR IN THE DOORWAY OF CABIN 11. He is so insanely awkward and it kills her. She's the type of person to say nothing because if she were to speak, she would embarrass herself. He's the type to say whatever's on his mind and then complain to Alex when things go wrong.
Percy sends his sister a look as if he's telling her 'don't laugh, I will hit you'. Alex manages to suppress her smile.
"Percy, Alex, meet Cabin 11." Annabeth carefully pushes the twins forward, Alex hiding behind Percy slightly. She doesn't like meeting new people so instead, she just nudges him forward. He steps in front of her unconsciously. They have always been the same height but Percy is often taller due to Alex's slouching.
"Regular or undetermined?" Someone asks from one of the many bunks. Alex peaks over her brother's shoulder into the cabin. The cabin is filled to the brim with campers, all wearing matching orange shirts. There's people of all ages, genders and ethnicities. The only similar thing about them all is the look of annoyance.
"Undetermined." Griffin says from behind them, moving to lean against the doorway. Everyone inside groans. Alex tries not to take it to heart.
"Now, now, campers. That's what we're here for. Welcome, Percy and Alex. There's lots of room on the floor over there." Luke points over to the corner of the room. Alex can't see it but based on the cabin she can tell it's probably dusty and dark with ants.
"This is Luke." Annabeth blushes. Luke has got to be at least 5 years older than the group of teens but that doesn't seem to phase Annabeth and her crush. Alex finds it cute. She just hopes nothing comes out of it as that's very illegal. "He'll be your councillor for now."
"For now?" Percy asks, turning to look briefly at Annabeth.
"You're undetermined," Luke explains. "They don't know what cabin to put you in, so you're here. Cabin 11 takes all newcomers, visitors. Naturally, we would. Hermes, our patron, is the god of travellers."
"How long will we be here for?"
"Until we get claimed." Alex says softly, looking at her brother.
"How long will that take?"
Everyone in Cabin 11 laughs. Annabeth drags Percy away, Alex and Griffin following close behind.
"Jackson, you have to do better than that." She huffs. Percy looks to his sister for an explanation but she just shrugs. She doesn't know why it's so funny. How many campers who were laughing are in the exact same situation as the twins?
"What?" He asks.
Annabeth mumbles something under her breath that Percy and Alex don't pick up. Either Griffin has super human hearing or could predict what she said because he winces.
"What's your problem?" Percy scoffs. She can basically feel her pulse rising with his. "All I know is, we killed some bull guy-"
"Don't talk like that." Annabeth whispers harshly. Alex can tell she and her brother aren't going to get along very easily. "You know how many kids at this camp wish they'd had your chance?"
"To get killed?" Alex buts in. By now, the group of 4 have stopped walking, instead standing so they can all look at each other.
"To fight the Minotaur!" Annabeth exclaims. Alex notices how Griffin stays quiet. "What do you think we train for?"
"Look, if the thing we fought really was the Minotaur, the same one in the stories... Then there's only one. And he died, like, a gajillion years ago, right? Theseus killed him in the labyrinth. So..." Percy looks around at the 3 like he's just solved all of the problems. Alex shakes her head with a frown, silently telling her brother to stop talking.
