Ugh, Where did the time go, summer was already over and classes would be starting soon. The soft rumbling in her gut told her to settle down, or she would worry an ulcer into existence. A soft knock on her bedroom door brought her back to reality, the room all packed up, and her suitcase open upon the bed.
"Already to go, Maya?" Dad came into view with a bright smile."Gotta hit the road soon to deliver their future track star, yeah?" He had a dry laugh that was contagious, it whisked her worry away. Causing her to smile in response.
"Yea, I think that's everything, just this last bit to put in the car."
He grabbed the last two boxes, a soft grunt emitting from his lips. Turning to zip the suitcase closed, she made one last look in the mirror. Making an adjustment to her clothes.
Her bob was neatly tucked behind her ear, her light blue jeans and gray fitted t-shirt under her matching jean jacket. After loading the car with her suitcase, Maya grabbed her book bag and joined the rest of her family in the car.
Kaeo was first to get to the dorm this year, she was excited to have a new roommate, not that Norma was bad per se, but she definitely had some quirks about her that made living with her rather interesting. Sitting on the common area couch, Kaeo made herself comfortable scrolling through the filters that were her daily suggestions on snap. When she finally settled on a filter that gave her cat eyes and a cat nose. Posing for the camera, it showed off her yellow crop top and dark blue jeans, a small glint of her belly ring can be seen shining through the filter as she snapped away.
"Suite 5A" came an unfamiliar voice, perhaps it was her new roommate, just as she set up she came face to face with a tall blonde with a short bob. She held her pillows and book bag along with a small box labeled "Maya"
"Oh, thank god a table" she laid her things on a table with a small huff followed by two adults that she assumed were the parents. A tall older man with thinning gray hair and bifocals that really showed off the green in his eyes and highlighted the eye crust that lingered behind.
Her mother, she assumed to be, was hard to put an age on. Her hair was still dark, she wore a light coverage of makeup. The shade of pink lip stain she wore brought warmth to her skin that made Kaeo understand why Maya's dad would go for her mom. The dark curls bounced slightly as she looked around the room, then at Kaeo.
"Hello Ma'am" She smiled
"Hi there. I'm Maya's mom, Lena. You must be her roommate. Nodding, she took her hand and shook it gently. The others made their way to Maya's room, unloading the boxes. Kaeo expected tears, but that was far from the case. They hugged and left.
"Sorry about that, my parents can be a bit much." Maya said, coming into view in the doorway.
"That was a bit much" she said scoffing, "Please, my mom literally used a whole box of tissues like I wouldn't be home for the holidays."
"Has the room been vacant long?" Maya asked, avoiding looking at Kaeo, but more so at the common area.
"No, Norma was my roommate last semester, but she ended up dropping out" She said flatly, moving to take a seat on the couch.

Maya didn't want to press, so she backed off and went to unpack her room. The layout was a bit similar to home, but not much could change the fact that she was now on her own. The small twinge of excitement ran through her body as she flopped down on her newly made bed.
"eeee he-he" she laughed into the covers, the scent of home still lingering on them. Inhaling deeply, she cherished the faint smell of sandalwood and jasmine her mom wore and the tide laundry soap she regularly bought. Looking into her back pocket, she fished out the schedule for the year
