Then, one day, fate stepped in. She knew he was coming, and with every passing minute, her heart beat louder.
She couldn't understand why she was so nervous. Was it the guilt of rejecting him? Or was it the excitement of seeing her buddy again? One thing was certain: she missed him. The thought of seeing him again filled her with a mix of emotions she couldn't quite decipher.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she heard the knock on the door.
When she opened it, there he was, standing there with a shy smile. "Hi," he said softly, clearly a little nervous himself.
"Hi," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
He had come over to fix a ukulele, a task that felt both ordinary and significant. As he worked, they chatted with their mutual friend about what song to play first. He suggested his favorite, the one that had always meant something special to him—our first song.
As he gently strummed the ukulele, the familiar melody filled the room. The sound stirred something inside her, making her feel butterflies that she hadn't expected.
The simple act of playing their song brought back memories, feelings she had tried to push aside.
When the time came for them to go home, they found themselves talking about a book she had mentioned before.
He casually said, "I'd like to borrow it sometime."
She hesitated for a moment, then smiled. "You can borrow it," she offered, even though she didn't actually have the book.
It was an impulsive gesture, one that she didn't fully understand herself, but it felt right in that moment.
He looked at her, a little surprised but pleased. "Thanks," he said, his smile widening.
As they parted ways, she couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions—confusion, excitement, and something else she couldn't quite name.
The day had brought them closer, yet it left her wondering where things would go from here.
