KRITI

I stopped dead in my tracks, my breath catching in my throat as my eyes locked onto the scene before me. There he was, the man who had just been lying beside me hours ago, now seated at the bar, a glass of whiskey in his hand, surrounded by a woman I had never laid eyes on before. My heart pounded in my chest, anger surging through my veins. How could he lie to me so easily? My mind raced back to his words, to the moments we'd shared earlier, and now... now he was here, with her.

I clenched my fists, feeling the sting of betrayal. It wasn't just me witnessing this twisted scene, either. To my right stood Maithili and Pree Jiji, their eyes also fixed on the men we thought were ours, our supposed partners, laughing and drinking with women we didn't recognize. The disbelief in their eyes mirrored my own. It was as if the world had come to a standstill, leaving nothing but the bitter taste of deceit.

The heat of fury rose in me, mixed with the hurt of betrayal. How could he do this? After everything? I wanted to storm up to him, to demand answers, but my legs refused to move, as if frozen in place by the sheer shock of it all. The lies, the audacity, it was all too much. He was here, indulging in his little fantasy, while I was left standing in the harsh reality of his betrayal.

"Oh, so here's where it all begins," Maithili's voice was sharp, each word dripping with a fire that seemed to light the air around us. Her anger was palpable, echoing the storm raging inside me. We exchanged a look, a silent agreement. There was no room for hesitation, no room for doubt. We knew what we had to do. Together, we stepped forward, each step heavy with the weight of betrayal and anger, our minds already reeling from the sight of the men we loved, now lost in their own world with strangers.

As we neared, my heart clenched, the sight of that woman's hand moving toward Swayam's collarbone sending a searing wave of fury through my entire body. My collarbone, the spot where my fingers had traced countless times, where I had found comfort and safety. And now, she dared to claim it, as if he were hers to touch.

The audacity of it all brought the anger bubbling to the surface, my vision blurring with rage. Before her fingers could graze his skin, I moved, instinct taking over. My hand shot forward, grabbing hers in midair. I could feel the shock ripple through her as I twisted her wrist sharply, making her gasp in pain. The satisfaction was brief, though, replaced almost instantly by the flood of emotions I could no longer hold back.

My eyes burned with the flames of betrayal, my gaze locked on hers. I didn't even have to speak. The message was clear in the way I held her, this was a line she could not cross. The anger roared inside me like a wildfire, threatening to consume me whole, but beneath it all, there was something more. There was sadness, raw and aching. The man I loved was sitting right there, yet he felt so far away, his presence a cruel reminder of the trust that had just shattered before my eyes.

The world around me seemed to fade as my grip tightened on her hand, and for a moment, everything was still. It wasn't just anger anymore, it was the grief of watching something precious slip away, replaced by lies and deceit. My heart screamed for answers, but all I had was this burning rage, this need to protect what was mine, even as it crumbled in front of me.

I didn't release her hand immediately, my eyes still locked on hers, daring her to make another move. The flames in my gaze were unmistakable, and anyone watching could feel the tension hanging in the air, thick and suffocating. It wasn't just about that woman or her wandering hand, it was about everything we had built, everything I thought we were. And in that moment, I wasn't just fighting her, I was fighting for us, for the love that had been slipping through my fingers like sand.

I released her hand, my fingers still trembling as I locked my gaze with his. His eyes were pleading, filled with confusion, but that wasn't enough to ease the storm within me. He reached out, trying to cup my cheek, a familiar gesture that once brought comfort. But not now. Not after what I had just seen. I stepped back, creating a chasm between us that felt as wide as the betrayal itself.

"Let's go. Let's not waste our time on these liars." Maithili's voice broke through, laced with the same fire I felt burning inside me. I nodded, unable to speak, and together we moved into the crowd, leaving behind the lies and the men we once trusted. The music thumped around us, the lights flickering in time with the beat, but it all felt distant, like I was walking through a world that wasn't mine anymore.

I could feel his presence trailing behind me, his steps desperate, but I refused to turn around. My heart ached, shattered by the sight of him with someone else, by the lies he thought he could hide behind. Every step I took felt heavier, the pain sinking deeper into my chest. I wanted to scream, to demand answers, but my anger was louder than my words.

As we weaved through the crowd, I glanced to my side, expecting to see Maithili and Preeti Jiji. But they were gone, lost in the sea of people. For a brief moment, I felt a surge of panic. Great, I thought sarcastically, just what I needed, more separation. But as much as my mind tried to mask the hurt with sarcasm, my heart couldn't escape the crushing weight of it all.

He caught my wrist firmly and in one swift motion, pulled me back, causing me to collide with the solid warmth of his chest. His arm snaked around my waist, pulling me closer as if he never intended to let go. I could feel the rise and fall of his breath against my back, his presence overwhelming, every inch of me aware of him. He leaned in, resting his chin lightly on my shoulder, his lips barely grazing my ear as he whispered, his voice a low, possessive growl laced with an undeniable tenderness.

"Don't you ever dare to doubt my love for you," he warned, his tone both a promise and a threat. "Because if you do... I'll make sure you understand it in a way you won't forget."

His words sent a shiver down my spine. It wasn't just the intensity in his voice, but the raw emotion behind it. I could feel the depth of his love, as though he was willing to tear down the world to prove it, leaving no room for uncertainty.

Slowly, I turned to face him, my eyes brimming with unshed tears. My throat felt tight, and in a hoarse whisper, I managed to say, "Leave my hand." But instead of letting go, he tightened his grip, just enough to keep me close, not to hurt me, but enough to prevent me from slipping away. My heart was heavy, overwhelmed by the storm of emotions swirling inside me, and though my tears blurred my vision, the anger simmering beneath the surface refused to stay silent.

These boys had lied to us. He had lied to me. The betrayal stung, and with my heart aching and fury rising, I snapped, my voice cutting through the music that played loudly around us.

"You're a liar and a cheater!" I screamed, the words spilling out before I could stop them. I didn't realize, in my anger, how much weight those words carried, words I would never mean, had I been thinking clearly.

As soon as the last syllable left my lips, I saw the change in his expression. His hand fell away from mine as though I had burned him. Where there had been love and tenderness only moments ago, now there was something far more painful, tears glistened in his eyes, eyes that had once looked at me with nothing but devotion. His face seemed to crumble, and his voice, usually so strong, came out hoarse and broken.

"Liar?" he repeated, his voice trembling. "I agree. I shouldn't have lied to you, and for that, I'm sorry. Truly, I am. But..." he paused, his voice catching, "Cheater?"

He looked at me, the depth of his pain laid bare, as if my words had shattered something deep within him. I had opened a wound in him that had never fully healed, one that had been festering beneath the surface, and I had thrown salt on it without even realizing. His entire demeanor collapsed, his shoulders slumping, his spirit breaking. And in that moment, I could see just how much my words had torn him apart, how they had cut deeper than any lie ever could.

I stood there, frozen in my own regret, watching him break before me, realizing that in my anger, I had pushed away the one person who had ever truly loved me.
