After the chief detective requested a summary of the investigation, Arjun began, his tone measured and calm, "I apologize again for not including you all in my investigation from the outset. I'm not accustomed to working with large teams, so I started my inquiry on my own."
The room was silent, everyone hanging on his words as he continued, "I didn't begin by visiting the households of the victims or scouring the streets of Naroda. Instead, my investigation started at the water towers. The first theory that struck me when I heard of this incident—"
Before he could finish, Officer Karan interrupted, his voice edged with impatience, "You're still stuck on theories, Arjun? I know it's hard to accept defeat, but without proof, this case holds no weight."
Arjun smiled, a quiet confidence in his eyes. "Patience, my friend," he replied, his voice steady. "Just listen for a few minutes."
The room settled again, the tension thick in the air as Arjun resumed. "According to my theory, such a large number of deaths could only be connected by a few means—'Water' or 'Electricity'."
He paused briefly, letting the gravity of his words sink in. "But if electricity had been the cause, the bodies would show signs of harm, which they don't. So, I considered the possibility: Could the entire water supply of Naroda have been poisoned?"
Arjun's voice deepened, drawing everyone's attention even closer. "Now, listen carefully. When this thought first occurred to me, I was confronted with several contradictions. First," he raised his index finger, "no poison was found in any of the victims' bodies. Second," he lifted another finger, "how could they have obtained and stored such a vast quantity of poison? And how could they have contaminated the entire water supply of Naroda? Third," a third finger rose, "if the water was poisoned, why did the deaths stop after a few hours? Shouldn't the water have remained poisoned indefinitely?"
The room was now completely absorbed, the weight of Arjun's words pressing down on everyone. He leaned back, crossing his arms as he continued, "These contradictions led me to abandon my theory initially. But no matter how much I reconsidered, I couldn't shake it. My mind kept returning to the same conclusion, as if I needed it to be true."
He sighed, the sound heavy with frustration and determination. "To satisfy my mind, I needed to verify if poisoning all of Naroda's water was even possible. So, I visited all six water towers in Naroda, and I concluded that it is indeed possible."
A stunned silence fell over the room as Arjun's words sank in. A chill ran down everyone's spine.
"This was the first water tower I visited," Arjun said, as an image of a water tower appeared on the large screen in the PANM conference room.
"I took this picture myself," Arjun explained. "When I climbed the stairs, I found a manhole at the top of the tower. You might know that manholes are built for annual cleaning of the tower."
