My fourth day in Verona and I am in love with the city.
Currently, I am sitting in one of the cutest coffee places, eating finger licking good Italian meatballs as the woman before me speaks rapid Italian to someone behind her phone. I have hardly caught up to anything she has said in last fifteen minutes but I know she is talking to someone she loves dearly.
"Va bene , ci vediamo." She whole heartily laughs and hangs up. "That would be my grandson." She says as she picks up her coffee and looks at me.
" You seem very fond of him." I say noticing a smile still lingering on her face after the call.
"I love him more than my own figilo..." She takes out some cash from her purse and slides it inside the bill not even counting them. I am not even going to tell her to take back the money so that I can pay because the last time I did that we had a long argument which attracted a lot of attention and I didn't even win. "...causing a lot of discussions during our family dinners. My figilo thinks I have spoiled my nipote too much for his own good which I disagree with."
We walk out of the cafe and head towards the busy market place of Verona.
"I have spoiled him more than that, more than any one can ever imagine." She adds and smiles at me and her smiles are infectious so I smile back.
Three days, that's how long I know her and she knows me but it seems like we know each other from forever. I have spent most of my time with Celia since I arrived to Verona.
"Celia, where are we going?" I ask her as she walks ahead of me and takes a right.
"You will love it!" She exclaims and continues walking down the street making me jog after her to catch up. I swear this woman must have been a athlete in her previous life. For a woman in her early seventies she could walk fast.
Celia lives just next door in the apartment hotel I am staying in. I met her when I was struggling with my groceries on my second day here. Since, that very moment I have grown very fond of her.
"We are getting you a dress." She says taking a left.
"What?" I try to catch up with her but I am already heavily breathing. "Why?"
"Come along."
"Celia..." I call as I run to her when she slows down near a row of fancy stores and boutiques.
She waves me her hand to follow her inside a store. I roll my eyes and walk in with her.
The boutique is huge and beautiful. The plush chrome and leather sofas, creamy white walls, gold and white curtains, antique mirrors and hundreds of beautiful dresses. I see different sections with dresses for every occasion and spot a small section for lingerie.
"Elaine, this is Johanna and she going to show you around and help you with the dresses." I nod towards Johanna who I believe is a woman is her forties. She has brown wavy hair and a radiant personality. She slowly twirls me around while talking to Celia in Italian. I assume them talking about my size because I catch a few measurement numbers.
Before I can ask Celia anything, I am handed over a number of evening dresses and sent to change. I quietly walk inside the changing room, slip off my jeans and put a pink dress on.
After around fifteen different dresses and gowns, I spot a pale pink gown. I pick that up and head to the changing room hoping it to be my last.
I am in awe with the gown. The rose silk chiffon one-shoulder gown has a twisted tulle overlay that romantically flows down. The dress' waist is thin, but it's a slim fit which makes the dress look sleek and elegant. It's simple and gorgeous completing my figure of 5'5.
