sands of time

in this vast, empty desert,
i stand alone.
it is starting to get late,
i can't find my way.

the wind kicks up,
a dangerous storm.
suffocated by sand,
i still stand alone.

swept away, thrown about,
my cries are surely muted.
who would hear me anyway?
no one stayed to listen.

something rises to break the storm.
a light, a sound, a star.
it has grace as it diffuses the chaos,
frees me from my tomb.

for years i was stuck,
battling the sands of time.
days, weeks, months,
wasting away without a fight.

and now you're there,
sparkling in the sky.
a darling centerpiece,
exuding the beauty of the night.

safety now knows me,
for i am in your sight.
a guardian, a friend, a lover
forever and always my guide.
