The sun had just dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the Phoenix skyline. The living room was bathed in the soft, golden light of the lamps that I had carefully arranged, setting the perfect ambiance for a quiet evening. It had been a long day—grueling, really—but it was nothing compared to what BG had been through at practice. I wanted everything to be perfect when my amazing girlfriend walked through the door.
I fluffed the pillows on the couch one more time, her mind wandering to the past few months. What had started with that one, unforgettable date had turned into something deeper, something I hadn't seen coming but couldn't imagine living without. Brittney had been so shy when she first asked her out, those usually confident brown eyes had been full of nervous energy, something I had found endearing.
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of keys jingling at the door. My heart skipped a beat. I couldn't wait to see her.
When Brittney finally walked in, her tall frame filling the doorway, I felt that familiar warmth spread through her chest. B looked exhausted, but her face softened the moment their eyes met.
"Hey, baby," Brittney murmured, dropping her gym bag by the door and crossing the room in a few long strides to wrap Me in her arms. The scent of her sweat and a hint of that musky cologne she loved that filled My senses, grounding her in this perfect moment.
"Hey, B," I whispered back, resting my head against Brittney's chest. I could hear B's heartbeat, steady and strong, and Brittney let herself melt into the embrace. This was what she had been waiting for all day.
Brittney pulled back just enough to look down at me, a tired but content smile on her face. "Missed you."
"I missed you too. You look like you had a tough day," I said, reaching up to brush a strand of her curls away from her forehead. It was still damp from the shower she must've taken at the arena.
Brittney sighed, a low, deep sound that resonated in her chest. "It was rough. Nate had us running drills for hours. My legs are killing me."
"Why don't you sit down, and I'll take care of you," I offered, pulling away gently and guiding her to the couch. I knew how hard Brittney pushed herself, how much she gave to her team, and she wanted to be the one to help her unwind.
Brittney didn't argue, letting Me lead her to the couch. As soon as B sat down, she leaned back, closing her eyes and letting out another long sigh. I took a moment to just look at her, taking in the strong lines of her face, the way her shoulders relaxed as she settled into the cushions.
I walked over to the small table by the kitchen, where she had set out some snacks ( hot Cheetos, skittles, and Reese's) and Brittney's favorite drinks (dr pepper and coke). I grabbed the drinks and returned to the couch, handing it to B, who opened her eyes and smiled gratefully.
"You spoil me, baby," she said, taking a sip.
I sat down beside her, close enough that their legs touched. "You deserve it. You work so hard, B. I just want to make sure you get to relax when you're home."
She reached out and took My hand, intertwining their fingers. "You being here with me is all I need."
They sat in comfortable silence for a while, the quiet only interrupted by the soft hum of the air conditioning and the occasional clink of ice in Brittney's drink. I felt a deep contentment settle over her, like everything was exactly as it should be.
After a few minutes, Brittney shifted, gently pulling Me into her lap. I laughed softly, but I didn't resist, wrapping her arms around her neck as I settled against her. Brittney's strong arms encircled my waist, holding her close.
"This is nice," I murmured, resting her head on her shoulder.
"It really is," B replied, pressing a kiss to the top of my head. "I needed this. You always know how to take care of me."
I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. It wasn't just about the snacks or the tidy living room; it was about being here, being present, showing B that she was loved and appreciated.
"I just love you, B," I whispered, my voice barely audible, but I knew B heard me.
Brittney tightened her hold on me, her lips brushing against my temple. "I love you too, baby."
They stayed like that for what felt like hours, just holding each other, exchanging soft touches and quiet words. It was in these moments, away from the court and the noise of the outside world, that I felt closest to Brittney. It was in the way Brittney's hands would stroke my back absentmindedly, or the way their breathing would sync up without them even trying. It was in the unspoken understanding between them that no matter how tough the day had been, they had each other to come home to.
Eventually, I pulled back just enough to look at Brittney, my hand tracing the line of B's jaw. "Are you hungry? I could make us something to eat."
Brittney shook her head, her eyes half-closed in contentment. "Not really. I'm just happy right here."
I leaned in and kissed her, slow and tender, pouring all the love I felt into that one simple act. When I pulled away, I saw that familiar look in Brittney's eyes—the one that said she was home, the one that made my heart swell with affection.
"Let's just stay here, then," I said softly, resting my forehead against B's.
Brittney nodded, a smile tugging at her lips. "Sounds perfect."
They spent the rest of the evening curled up on the couch, talking about nothing and everything, sharing stories from their day, laughing at inside jokes, and simply enjoying each other's presence. I loved how easy it was to be with Brittney, how natural it felt to just be themselves around each other.
As the night wore on and the lights dimmed, I felt a deep sense of peace settle over her. I knew that their relationship wasn't always going to be easy—there would be challenges, especially with the pressures of Brittney's career—but I also knew that what they had was real. It was the kind of love that could weather any storm, the kind of love that felt like coming home.
And as I drifted off to sleep, my head resting on Brittney's chest, I knew that no matter what the future held, they would face it together, hand in hand, heart to heart. Because in the end, that's all that mattered. They had each other, and that was more than enough.
A/N: was confused on what this chapter will be about tbh😭😭😭 but I hope y'all like it!
