Cairo's POV
The drive to Cc's house was fairly short, even though we stopped in a mall mid way to buy a present for her younger brother - a brand new set of VR-glasses. Even with that, it didn't take us longer than 45 minutes until we arrived at their home.
A slight smirk shows on my face as my eyes wonder across their property. Pretty much the stereotypical californian family home you'd expect. Of course it couldn't compare to the Sweet residence I grew up at. Despite all that happened there, the 1940's charm of the house held a special place in my heart.
"Ready?" I ask while turning to Cc as we stand in front of the door. "Yes" she replies with a deep exhale, visibly nervous. I reach for her hand, intertwining our fingers and give her a reassuring squeeze. She smiles at my gesture and proceeds to press the doorbell.
Not even five seconds later, the door swings open. "Cc, honey, it's so nice to see you!" a middle-aged woman exclaims happily while she embraces my roommate in a tight hug.
"Mom, I've literally been gone for only like a week" Cc chuckles.
"Feels like forever, I miss my baby girl so much!" her mother replies, before turning her attention towards me. "You must be Cairo" she states with a comforting smile.
"I am. It's so nice to meet you, Mrs. Walker, I appreciate the invitation" I say while extending my hand for a handshake.
Instead, she pulls me in for a hug as well. "Please, call me Jess. I'm so happy you could make it, Cc said you're quite busy and probably won't be able to attend."
I raise my eyebrow while glancing at Cc, barely visible to anyone else but I know she noticed. "My schedule cleared up last minute, so I happily accepted the chance to meet my girlfriend's parents" I reply in a friendly tone.
"Come inside, the both of you! Wyatt and Bill are still at school, some sort of extracurricular activity I believe, but they should be home within the hour. Are you girls hungry?" Jess asks with a caring expression.
"No thank you mom, we ate at the dorm. We'll head upstairs for now, if that's okay?" Cc asks.
"Of course! I'll let you know when your brother and father arrive, then we can all eat together."
We both nod in response, and Cc grabs for my hand again. "Come, I'll show you my room!" she giddily announces before dragging me up the stairs behind her. Since I want to be a nice girlfriend, I oblige.
The moment we enter Cc's room, a big smile creeps on my face. I can see Cc looking nervously around before returning her gaze to me. "Hey, don't mock me!" she frowns.
I chuckle slightly. "I'm not mocking you baby, no worries. Your room is adorable, just how I imagine it would look. It fits you perfectly" I remark.
"I take it as a compliment then. Now I wonder what your childhood room looks like.. fitting for your personality would be a last century big ass estate with very old features" she giggles.
My smirk grows even wider. "You're good" I say, before I grab my phone to whip up a picture of my house in Tennessee.
"Here, take it" I say, handing Cc my phone. "You have to swipe."
Eagerly, she takes it and begins to look at the pictures.
