Mikael and Tim walked around the hallways, Tim showed Mikael how to clean the windows, mop the floors, they even went into rooms and dusted off tables and trinkets.
A few hours had passed and they were now in the kitchen watching the head chef, Rowena, cook dinner.
"Now, you need to be delicate with this. You don't want to accidentally chop your finger off." Rowena showed the boys as she cut a chunk of fat off the pork. Rowena was an average height and average looks kind of girl. She had her brunette hair in a braid and the women's uniform on.
She heavily seasoned the freshly cut pork before putting it on a hot pan. It sizzled and popped. The smell was heavenly.
"Mikael, dear. The potatoes are done boiling. Could you finish them for me?" Mikael nodded his head before scuttling over to the pot of potatoes. He carefully poured the boiling water out before taking the potatoes and squishing them until they were mush. Milk and butter were added to the potatoes before sprinkling in some salt and pepper. The potatoes were done right as Rowena finished with the tenderloin. Mikael was so happy to have contributed to Nikolson's meal.
"Deary, go get the lord for dinner. I'm sure he'll be happy if you get him." Rowena giggled and Mikael blushed. He scurried off without a word.
He approached the tall double doors into Nikolson's office. He knocked twice and heard a responding "come in." He carefully opened the door, his eyes felt blessed as they landed on Nikolson. He was wearing a ruffled collar shirt and a black laced belt on top. His hair was parted to the side and flowed beautifully around his head. A small feeling of pride welled in Mikael.
Nikolson was sitting at his desk, reading a piece of paper. He glanced up from the paper and saw Mikael standing in the doorway. He made a gesture for Mikael to come over. The young demon shuffled over to the lord's desk.
I want him closer, I want to hold him in my arms. Nikolson thought to himself.
"Is there anything you need?" The lord inquired. Mikael shook his head.
"Dinner is ready, my lord." Nikolson could practically feel the excitement and anticipation radiating off Mikael. Nikolson stood up and headed towards the door.
"Let us go eat then." The lord strode down the hall, he paused for a moment before turning to look at Mikael, who was walking behind him. "Am I walking too fast?" He asked the younger demon. Mikael shook his head. "Then walk beside me." Mikael flushed and scurried up to Nikolson's side.
They entered the empty dining hall and were greeted by the smells of pork tenderloin, creamy mashed potatoes, and asparagus.
Mikael hurried and pulled out a chair for Nikolson. The gesture was adorable to the lord. He sat down and watched as Mikael eagerly grabbed the food from the cart by the table and placed it in front of him. The young demon stood by the table with a look of hope and excitement on his face.
Nikolson grabbed his fork and headed for the tenderloin. Mikael's expression fell. He redirected his hand towards the potatoes and the excited look was back. Nikolson wanted to smile at this adorable show of emotions, but held back.
He scooped up a bit of the creamy substance and popped it into his mouth. He chewed thoughtfully and then gave Mikael an approving nod. A humongous smile bloomed across Mikael's face. Nikolson wanted to kiss those cheeks that moved with that beautiful smile. A feeling of warmth pooled in the lord's stomach and he swallowed a lump in his throat. He started to cut the tenderloin into bite sized pieces and asked,
"How was your first day?"
"Oh, it was amazing! I got to wash the windows, dust off counters, and even scrub the stairs! Then Ms. Rowena taught me how to make mashed potatoes and I got to watch her cook the pork! I had a really nice conversation with Tim and..." Nikolson smiled as Mikael rambled on, he's never seen the demon in such high spirits.
