When Hizashi woke up in the middle of the night, he didn't know whether it was the sound of thunder striking or the sound of a clash in the kitchen that woke him up first. The noise was enough to make him sit up in concern but to his surprise, his normally light sleeper husband was still crashed out next to him.
Shouta had been cramming the last of his college assignments and studying for his finals, so it was reasonable that he would be in a deeper sleep than usual. What was even more, Aizawa was still the main caretaker of the two children they had recently adopted, and they were a handful on their own.
It was a lot of work and the strain was made apparent by the dark circles that could be seen throughout the day under Aizawa's eyes. For that reason, Hizashi decided to let his husband sleep in as he went by himself to check on the noise in the kitchen, thinking maybe Lady was knocking stuff off their counters.
As Hizashi exited the room, he could already see a strange white glow coming from the kitchen, shadows flickering as whatever was causing them fumbled around in front of the lighting.
The familiarity of Midoriya's giggles could be heard before he turned the corner, curious Hizashi snuck a peek to catch what was happening. To his surprise Lady was a part of the boys' midnight escapade, eating a piece of sliced sandwich ham from Izuku's hand and purring loudly as she chewed.
As Yamada took in the scene he took notice of the source of the light, Bakugou was standing physically in the fridge, climbing up a layer and trying to reach for his favorite yogurt. Clamped in the boy's teeth, hanging half out of his mouth was a slice of cold ham, grabbed as a quick bite as he reached for his main snack.
From where Hizashi was he could make out that their fridge was now disorganized as Bakugou pushed stuff aside to make room for his next step. There was hesitation as the boy was at eye level with some of the leftover pasta from last evening's lunch but the boy shook his head and kept climbing for the banana yogurt on the high shelf.
Hizashi let out an audible gasp as he saw Bakugou slip on the humidity of the shelf but the boy quickly caught himself. At that moment thunder struck as three little faces snapped at him. It could've been his overactive imagination but Yamada could have sworn he saw Midoryia's and Bakugou's eyes reflect light back at him for a split second.
"You're gonna fall like that. Let me help you down bud," Hizashi said as he walked closer, his brain finally catching up to the bizarre sight.
Bakugou's eyes widened as Yamada walked towards him, instead of accepting the help he chose to let go of the shelf and let himself fall. Hizashi cringed as he saw the boy's knees wavier as he landed on the hardwood floor, he was hoping to avoid that.
If the landing was painful, Katsuki didn't show it because he quickly steadied himself to stand in front of Izuku, hand outstretched as he herded the boy to the corner. The blonde quickly swallowed the rest of the ham in his mouth before sneering up at Hizashi with furrowed eyebrows as he glared.
"Are we in trouble?" Izuku questioned, letting go of the piece of ham which Lady gladly continued to eat on the floor.
Bakugou straightened up at the word trouble but covered up his fear with more aggression. Tiny fists formed from the blonde's hands as he began to put them up in a threatening pose. Izuku saw this and nervously grasped his hands together, unsure about the situation.
"Nope, you guys are not in trouble," Hizashi quickly reassured them, putting his hands up in surrender to ease their concern.
"Lies?" Bakugou questioned with grit teeth, not wanting to fall for a possible trick.
