...PINCH ME, I MUST BE DREAMING. You double take, rubbing at your eyes to see if you're hallucinating.

But behold, you definitely aren't hallucinating. Alastor--in some shape and form--somehow magically manifested himself in your room and is now on your bed as if it's home to him.

Did your thoughts really take the turn of becoming a reality? What horrible timing to discover this new power.

You sit up, brushing down the wrinkles in your dress and fixing your sleeves. "What in the everlasting hell are you doing here?!" You look left and right, realizing that you need to be quiet just in case of demons passing by outside.

Quickly, you turn away to lock the door as a safety precaution, before confronting Alastor again. Who took it upon himself to now lay on his stomach, legs dangling in the air with both hands under his chin.

"How did you get here?" You ask, trying to ignore the sudden raise in speed from your heart beating.

Alastor's smile turns playful. "Well my dear, I have this wonderful ability that allows me to teleport through shadows! I can go wherever I please."

Smartass.

You roll your eyes, now walking towards the window to unlock it and push it open. It had gotten too hot to handle in here, but that could be just you.

"Alright, now leave," you state, firmly and to the point, all the while resisting the urge to just run and collide into his warm embrace.

Alastor swings his legs off the bed, now in the sitting up position as he gives you a skeptical look. "I thought you would be happy to see me, did our affair mean that little to you?"

Your eyes widen, hands clenching into fists. It technically wasn't an affair since your contract hadn't been signed yet. But to hear the words leave Alastor's lips is a bold smack to your face.

One you aren't going to take.
You approach him, one finger raised to point at his face. "You know damn well you can't be here. What if Andrealphus finds out?!"

"I'm quite sure that dodo bird won't notice your absence for a few hours. He claimed he was busy, did he not?"

"How did you know that?"

"I have my ways," Alastor stands up, curiosity tugging him towards the grandfather clock in the corner. With two fingers, Alastor adjusts his tinted glass monocle, admiring the detail crafted into the wood, as he speaks.

"I believe a breath of fresh air would do you some good. It's quite stuffy in here, isn't it?" Alastor shudders, "and cold."

You chew on your bottom lip out of hesitation. His offer seems like a wish come true. You'd do anything for an hour--or even a few minutes--out of this castle, away from this facade you're forced to wear.

You'd love to walk yet again on the familiar streets, wave and smile to the regular faces. But...

"I can't," you mutter, despite the pain that tugged at your heart. "It's not worth the risk to leave."

Alastor purses his lips. He knew it wouldn't be that easy to persuade you into leaving. Perhaps a little more force should do the trick.

Or perhaps...a sprinkle of his dazzling charm. Or even, a little mockery to provoke.

Circling you with an almost daring glint in his eyes, Alastor speaks.
"I thought Y/N Morde was a risk taker," he chuckles, "don't tell me you've grown soft already."
