"You're not serious about going to that party, mel?" Emma asks, crossing her arms over her chest and giving me a disapproving look. "I smell trouble. I mean, why are Victoria's friends suddenly interested in you? That's mad suspicious."
Who was she anyway? My mom?
She's even more of a mother than my actual one is. I've had enough of it, though. My real mom is way too busy sleeping with teenage boys while my dad is an alcoholic who does nothing but go to work then to the bar and then somehow manages to come back and drink some more on the living room floor.
I'm trying to have some fun tonight and leave all that at home. The least she could do is stand by my decision and be happy for me. Or is she just jealous she wasn't invited.
"Can you push aside your worries and just be happy?" I asked. " I am sick of working my ass off in school and at home, em. I just want to have fun tonight."
" I am not stopping you from having fun. I've just got a really bad feeling about this. I don't trust her, Mel, I've never trusted her."
" Yeah, tell me something I don't know." I rolled my eyes.
She sighs. "What about Tiffany? Are they even worried about her? They're just gonna go partying while she's still unconscious?"
I gave a half shrug. " Yeah, I guess so. But does it even matter? You can't expect them to be weeping beside her bed like that'll help the situation."
Emma was not giving it up though. She had that look of total determination on her face that says 'i'm not letting you go, if it kills me.'
"What did happen to her Mel? You've avoided this subject long enough."
Sighing, I ran a hand through my curly red hair, getting it tangled in some knots. "It was just an accident, Emma. I bumped into her she fell on top and I kicked her off. I wouldn't have done it if I'd knew who she was b-but you know how claustrophobic I am an.."
My hand wasn't getting out of that darn knot. "And so I knocked her off. I saw that she wasn't getting up so I called the teacher. She brought me to the infirmary and-and-
I stomped my foot in frustration. My hair was really begining to get nappy. I haven't combed it in days.
"Damn it!" I yanked at my hand but it only pulled at my sensitive scalp. "Ouch!"
Emma rolled her eyes at me before untangling my knotted hair from my hand and stepping back. "You can continue."
I sighed. "Okay... So after they brought me to the infirmary she and nurse Katlyn were having some hushed Convo and kept looking at me strangely. After that they asked me a bunch of crazy questions and then I was finally permitted to leave."
" What sort of questions did they ask?" Emma asks, curiously.
" I- I don't really remember," I lied.
She huffs. " Mel, don't lie."
I deflated. "Sorry. She asked if- if something like this has happened before."
Emma just looked at me for a long moment, eyes squinting.
The assessing look she was giving me made me very uncomfortable. " Emma...?"
" Okay, that's enough. You're allowed to go to your party. I'll see you later." Emma turns and leaves.
I breath a sigh of relief. I guess interrogation was over. Now I'm free to go and have fun tonight.
No worries, just letting loose.
