Chapter 7

They part ways and go to cool down after leaving the clinic. Not a word is exchanged. She needs to figure out what's going on in Levi's mind. Is he thinking about the killers, Lyra, or their exchange today? She can't stop thinking about the twins. She has yet to see one of his weaknesses. And she'll not figure it out in any way other than being involved more with Levi. She wishes she could read everything through his colours, but that's always been limited. After all these years, she still doesn't fully know how it works. It never works well during battle and can malfunction if emotions are involved. That's her job anyway. She returns to the grocery store to pick up her stuff; she's not planning to starve while staying with the Benriya trio. She pulls her sleeve down, ensuring to hide the bandage in case the twins are still around. The sight of a red "Closed" sign behind the metal bars strikes her heart like the last standing flag on the battlefield. She squishes her face on the glass, trying to find Miranda inside, but nobody's there. Defeated, she heads back to her temporary residence.

By the time she gets back to Benriya's, it's past 10 p.m. Opening the door, she sees Alex, Nick, and Worick each sitting on a chair staring at the old black and white TV screen, watching a soap opera. Nick is obviously just pretending to be interested in the show.

"Having fun I see," y/n says, dropping her jacket on the kitchen chair and removing her shoes.

"And you're back...with nothing?" Worick looks up at her with no groceries or weapons. "Someone seems to have a enjoyed herself tonight," he smirks, looking at her up and down, staring at her messy hair.

"Someone sounds jealous," she walks to the sink, splashes some water on her face and starts making a jelly sandwich for herself.

"Oh please, I get paid babe," he winks, rubbing his thumb, index, and middle finger together. "Nothing to be jealous of free work."

"That's why you're so lonely." She puts the knife down and closes the lid on the jam jar. Worick clenches his chest dramatically and mouths a silent "ouch." "The groceries are at the store. I don't know if I'll make it before she closes again. Alex, can you pick them up tomorrow, please?"

"Ah, sure...? You'll be at the PD?" Alex leans down toward her knees so she can get a better view behind Worick's huge body next to her.

"Unfortunately. It's going to be a hell of an annoying day." She munches her sandwich. Her sleeve falls down as she raises her arm up.

"Are...you okay?" Alex asks, concerned. She never seems to get used to the routine life of this city.

"By The Way, Chad called," Worick jumps between the conversation before y/n can address Alex's worried heart.

"Good," she finishes her sandwich, "any familiar faces?"

"Wow. Not even a thank you? That midget has really gone under your skin, huh?" he smirks, leaning his chin on his palm. Alex watches in confusion, clearly unaware of today's event. While Nick rolls his eyes.

"Heh, he wishes," she shrugs and plops on the couch. "If you're so curious, why don't you join us tomorrow?"

"Haha, you talk funny. We have no interest in talking to a teenager. But I love to know the tea!" he purses his lips into a kiss and sends it across to y/n. Cringe runs down her soul as she blocks his kiss with a cushion. "But they'll hear about it you know?" he makes an evil smile, his single blue eye shining with mischief. The overwhelming amount of green and orange in his aura makes her nauseous.

"Who?" she asks, pretending not to know where he's taking the conversation.

"The Godfathers, specially Uranus Corsica."

"That's Chad's problem. I'm out before that happens."

"Ten Normals, all from anti-twilight factions and all young. This is not going to end soon. Plus, now you owe me."
