As former Commander of the City Watch
Daemon Targaryen knew the ins and outs of the Red Keep, especially King Maegor's secret tunnels. After finding out Vaelys was nearly beheaded, he couldn't fathom fighting for Rhaenyra's claim anymore if it cost him his oldest daughter's life, and wanted to see if he could join the Green's side.
The familiar darkness that cloaked the tunnel unnerved the rogue prince, the light seeping out from underneath the secret doors that led to different rooms, his only light source. He genuinely had no idea where Vaelys was, but he knew exactly what door led to the King's Chambers.
And King Aegon was now at the mercy of his blade.
Aegon's reaction was muffled as his Uncle covered his mouth with his gloved hand, Daemon could feel Aegon's heart racing against his arm "Don't scream and you won't get hurt". Aegon was petrified, Daemon Targaryen had used the same sword to slice Vaemond Velaryon's skull in half.
"Are you gonna scream?" Daemon questioned as Aegon carefully shook his head 'No'. "Good, we need to talk" he said as he removed himself from his trembling nephew.
Aegon didn't attempt to run or call for help as Daemon helped himself to his wine, "I'm switching sides" he said as he sculled the remaining liquid down his throat. "You're what?" Aegon said in bemusement as his uncle sat comfortably in his chair.
"For Aemond's wrongful actions, Rhaenyra tried to kill my daughter, Aegon...that is not the rightful measures of a Queen" Daemon said angrily as Aegon tried to comprehend what was happening, "she's going mad with power and only time would tell how far she'd go".
"I don't know what to say...Daemon"
"Put me in your counsel"
Aegon huffed in disbelief, "I... they would never allow it...besides, why should I?" He questioned as he stood up to place distance between them, one hand on his head in frustration at what the night had turned into.
"Because I am the best warrior this realm has ever seen and you'd want me fighting for your side" Daemon said smugly and Aegon couldn't argue with that. "I lost Baela and Rhaena not even five days ago Aegon" Daemon said as he contained his emotions "and now I've almost lost Vaelys".
Aegon's stomach plummeted at the reminder of the incident, "I know Daemon, but you can't just waltz in here and demand to be appointed-" "Please Aegon...I need to be near my daughter should she need my protection!" Daemon begged as Aegon shook his head in a discouraging manner.
"I could kill you and the two Hightower cunts for usurping the throne, but I stand before you as a father pathetically begging for a chance to be with my daughter".
"I won't even ask how my brother died" he said as Aegon groaned before answering, "fine, fine! I'll... make you Lord-" "Commander of the Kingsguard" "Ser Criston has already filled that position" Aegon reminded him with an obvious tone.
