ZARA'S POV:
" Zara, listen!!" Dr. Faheem's urgent voice came up to me, making me stop dead in my tracks.
I turned to see him hurrying towards me, his face a picture of haste and concern.
"Yes, Doctor?"
"I need your help!!," he immediately replied, his voice low and urgent.
I'm in a rush, and there's an emergency I need to attend to. Can you please look in on my patient for me?"
He gestured vaguely in the direction of the ward, his hand moving so quickly it was almost a blur.
"Here's the patient's file," he gave a thick folder into my hands. "It's just a follow-up, but I know I can trust you with my patients.
With that, giving me a quick thumbs-up, he dashed towards the ICU on the first floor.
I watched him go, feeling confused and worried. What was going on? Why was Dr. Faheem in such a rush?
My gaze moved towards the file in my hand, and I noticed something! Didn't this patient's name seem so familiar?
I thought for a while. But I didn't have much time to ponder these questions.I had a job to do. The patient was waiting, and I couldn't keep them waiting. That's not what we were trained for.
I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders, and headed towards the ward, my scrub-clad legs moving swiftly and silently down the corridor.
--I entered the first room of the corridor. My eyes on elderly couple, the man, likely the patient lying on the bed. Meanwhile, the lady sitting next to him, she gazed at the man lying in front of her.
The nurse assistant was also there, arranging the machines.
What test had been done?I didn't waste much time and went inside straight away. "Assalamu alaikum,"
I greeted a little louder, and both of them caught my attention.
Passing them a gentle smile which they reciprocated, then I approached the assistant nurse who was there."What test has been done? Actually, Dr. Faheem asked me to attend here as he had to go for an emergency."
"Dr. Faheem asked for an echo of Mr. Qureshi, which has been done." She handed me another file, with papers and images.
As I took the file, the name echoed in my mind again, I had heard it before, but where?
Well, I looked in their direction, the elderly patient's eyes were heavy and tired, but there was a spark of confidence in them, which reminded me of my own father.
The lady sat beside him, her wrinkled hand gently holding his, her eyes never left mine, searching for reassurance.
After studying the echocardiogram intently for a few minutes, I began, "Hmm, I can see some irregularities,"
I narrated slowly, wanting them to understand. "The heart muscles are weakened too."But don't you worry, looking at your previous record it's nothing like that,
you are much better than before."I said firmly, putting a reassuring hand on his arm. "And we're going to make you feel better than ever."
Mr. Qureshi's eyes crinkled, with a smile he said, " Ahh I know I'll be fine, tell her.
He tilted his eyebrows towards his wife, "She is the one who is worried."
