(In the bell tower, Epsilon runs around the room and places a variety of items into his old satchel; a spare cloak, a wooden mask painted to look like a jester, his wood carving knife, a pouch of currency, and spare string for the mask. Once it's full, he dashes to his sleeping area, takes off his poncho and throws it into his dresser, grabs a tunic from the dresser and puts it on, then he dashes to his carving table and grabs the cloak that was on it and puts the cloak on.)
[Epsilon speaks:]
Okay.. Now all I need to do is get down there without the priests or nuns seeing me.(He suddenly feels a tap on his left shoulder, making him flinch in fear. He whirls around, only to sigh in relief once he sees his frowning stone friend; 5.)
[5 Speaks:]
Epsilon, what are you doing? Are you actually[Epsilon speaks:]
Absolutely yes. Beta is right, I cannot stay up here forever; I am a living being who deserves the right to explore, just like everyone else in the city. Besides, I've been working up here for seven years, I think I deserve a break from ringing the bells.(8 snorts from the other end of the table.)
[8 speaks:]
Sounds like someone's becoming more like Beta everyday. But aren't you afraid of someone seeing you?[Epsilon speaks:]
Trust me, 8, no one is going to see me as long as I stay away from the parades, but in the case I have been spotted by anyone, I will be wearing the mask I carved last week. Plus I'll be back before evening mass. See? I've thought this all through.(Epsilon trots to the balcony and stops at the railing, then he pulls a long rope from his satchel and ties the rope on the railing. He looks back to see 8 and 5 watching out for him from inside, Beta had joined them with a warm smile on her face.)
[Epsilon speaks:]
I'll be back before Master arrives. Farewell for now, my friends.[Beta calls out:]
Have fun, Epsilon! We'll see you soon!(He then climbs over the railing, grabs the rope, and begins to slide down slowly to the streets below. He is almost at the bottom when.. he stops abruptly.
There, just a few centimeters below his feet this the ground. So close.... Yet so far...
Epsilon trembles from the rope; he is terrified. It had been so long he was last outside the cathedral... Since he was a child....)
