What a hell of a first week. Crazy that so much could happen in such a small amount of time. And that was probably nothing compared to what was to come. Jane hoped though that things might at least be spaced out a little bit more- she didn't think she could handle so much drama all at once.
Monday brought the second round of classes. It was quite wonderful that she was going to get to experience (hopefully) and entire years worth of magical curriculum. DADA was focused similarly on what it had been in the previous class. They talked about both protego and leviosa as used in dueling.
Hecat gave a pop quiz over the reading, which was about the creation of the two spells. Jane had done the reading, but she wasn't called on. Her chosen seatmate, Poppy, did get called on and answered correctly. Sebastian was also called on, and he very quickly gave the correct answer. He was praised by the teacher, and after she had turned to someone else he turned around in his seat to smile at the Gryffindor quite shamelessly.
After their little... episode last night, she wasn't sure if he was going to sulk or try to get back on her good side. It seemed that he was more one to fight for the things that he wanted, which made a lot of sense. When he was denied something he wanted in the game it was less brooding and more pestering- like with Ominis and the scriptorium. So it seemed this would be no different.
She rolled her eyes at him and very dramatically made it a point to show she was only going to be paying attention to the lesson. She watched Hecat question another student, but saw him chuckle out of the corner of her eye.
As was the teachers preference, the rest of the class was spent hands on learning. It was similar to the other class, but this time it was just a bunch of mini duels around the class. Everyone partnered up and practiced the shielding spell and leviosa back and forth.
This practice sadly didn't flip whatever switch was inside of her to do things incisively- so it didn't go great for her. Jane found herself stuck in the air more than once as she attempted to shield herself from Poppy's spells.
Her reflexes were decent, but she couldn't get the wand movement right now, because apparently she didn't see her friend as a threat. She had tried asking the girl to really come at her in hopes the battle drive would kick in, but the Hufflepuff was way too soft.
It was even more embarrassing when Professor Hecat had to come over multiple times to help her with the wand movements. She was sure the teacher was stumped at how she could go from the duel with Sebastian to... whatever this was. It also didn't help that every so often she caught Sebstian's eye and he looked more than pleased at her progress.
When class was dismissed Jane was called to stay back to talk. No surprise there. She turned towards Poppy to let her know she didn't want to wait, but she beat her to it.
"I have to go meet with Professor Ronen before class so I wont be able to wait for you."
"Oh that's okay, I was about to tell you that you didn't have to."
"Do you want me to grab Sebastian to wait for you- it seemed like he really wanted your attention during class."
"Ugh please don't. You really are much too perceptive for your own good."
Poppy giggled "You say that, but I think the whole class could tell how infatuated he seemed today. You must have really put a spell on him this weekend."
"Let's talk after Charms- we can take the long want to lunch."
"Sure thing- I'll see you later!" She watched her friend go, a little bit jealous.
