Cole's POV

It's been a while since I've heard from Alex. He's been oddly quiet, almost too quiet, ever since that grocery store run. I know he's still there, lurking in the back of my mind, but his silence is starting to worry me. Then, just as I'm about to finish putting away the last of the groceries, he finally speaks up.

"You're playing a dangerous game, Cole."

His voice is low, more thoughtful than his usual sharp-edged sarcasm. I freeze for a moment, feeling the weight of his words press down on me.

"What are you talking about?" I reply mentally, glancing over at Chara who's in the kitchen, chatting with Gran. I've been careful not to show how much I'm watching her, but Alex knows. He always knows."The girl," Alex growls, his tone rougher now. "Chara. You felt it, didn't you? The spark when you touched her? The way everything shifted? It's more than a game."I clench my jaw, trying to focus. "It's not like that, Alex. We're just helping each other out. She doesn't know anything about—"

"She's your mate, Cole!" Alex cuts me off, the finality in his voice making my heart skip a beat. "And you're dancing around it like an idiot. You're supposed to kiss her to know for sure. That's how you find out. But you're wasting time pretending it's something else."

I blink, trying to process his words. A mate? Chara?

My mind whirls as I try to deny it, but deep down, I know Alex is right. That strange, electric feeling every time I touch her, the way my wolf stirs in her presence, how everything feels sharper, more alive around her... it can only mean one thing.

"So, what? I kiss her and then what?" I ask, keeping my face neutral as I look out the window, my thoughts racing.

"Then it's done," Alex replies, his voice softer now. "She's bound to you, and you to her. But don't wait too long. You don't want to lose her before you even try."

I sigh, rubbing the back of my neck. The weight of Alex's words hangs over me like a cloud. Chara doesn't know any of this, and dragging her into my world... well, that's not something I'm sure she's ready for. Hell, I'm not even sure I'm ready for it.

As if sensing my turmoil, Chara glances at me from the kitchen and gives me a soft smile, completely unaware of the storm raging inside my mind. I force a smile back, but inside, I'm a mess.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Later, as I get ready...

I'm standing in front of the mirror, pulling on a plain black shirt that Chara insisted I get while we were shopping. It fits well, snug around my chest and arms, and it's a far cry from the ragged clothes I've been wearing since... well, since I gave up on most things.

As I'm adjusting the collar, Gran walks in with a soft smile on her face. "You clean up nice, Cole."I chuckle. "Thanks. I guess I needed a change."
