"it'll just hurt for a second."
"Welcome, sweetie. Good days, you're drenched! Here, let me get you a cup of hot chocolate."
Said the over-chatty woman behind the counter. But she was right. Laika was drenched, and the 60's themed clothing she still had on didn't help much.
So she sat at the counter patiently, waiting for her drink without counting her steps or finding patterns in everything.
Her brain felt peaceful for once. Static and white noise replaced the once never-ending thoughts.
Once the mug of hot chocolate was cupped in her hands, she sipped carefully so as not to burn herself.
Ding!
Her Laika-Luck was on fire today it seemed.
Because, sitting down right next to her, was none other than Five Hargreeves. The man who got Laika in this trouble.
Stop blaming others, Laika. It was your decision. She stared at him intensely while he didn't spare a glance.
"Well," he sighed, "what a coincidence," he smiled sarcastically.Laika only blinked in response.
But whatever reason he had to find her, it wasn't bad, she reasoned.Right is right so she went left. While standing in the rain, Laika had yet again trusted the wind to direct her.
But it wasn't always the wind. Sometimes it was a whisper, telling her what to do, other times it was simply a feeling.
And that time, a soft breeze led her to this cafe. She knew it was the breeze. Warm, soft, and sweet as it contrasted the current weather; it just felt right.
Maybe not such a coincidence after all?
"Don't worry. It truly is; I didn't put a tracker on you."
Laika didn't think about that before, but now she did.
Ding!
This time, a man, who actually looks his age came in and sat down next to the boy.
Five ran the bell impatiently.
Ding, ding, ding.
