I wouldn't mind, but you would have to clean, hunt for food, and take care of the bedding," I said, listing things that would make me hesitant to stay with someone.

"I don't mind. I was always seen as 'wife' material to my friends. It's not weird," the guard replied, a glint of happiness in their eyes. "What is your name?" I asked. "Mortem. And yours?" the guard said. "Strix." "May I stay with you?" he asked, his expression worried, his brows furrowing as he awaited my response. I could feel the tension in the air as my eyes narrowed and locked onto his, conveying a sense of hesitation and uncertainty. After a moment of consideration, I finally relented, my voice firm yet conceding, as I reluctantly uttered, "Fine."

As we walked through the dense forest, Mortem exuded a sense of unwavering calmness. Eventually, we arrived at my secluded home nestled deep within the woods, where the only source of illumination was the gentle glow of the moonlight. Standing by the door, I observed as Mortem silently absorbed the modest surroundings of my small abode. As we settled down, I couldn't help but feel a surge of apprehension as he inquired, "Thank you for your help. When can we commence our search for the missing gem? I suspect the thief concealed it in a brown leather satchel." My eyes widened in disbelief. How could he not suspect me as the thief? I hadn't done anything to conceal my identity. Was Mortem oblivious, or was there more to his astuteness than met the eye? Lost in contemplation, I found myself consumed by my ruminations. ( Thoughts)

"Hello? Sorry if I was being annoying," Mortem said with heavy, tired eyes as he cast a weary glance in my direction. I returned his gaze, attempting to gauge (Study) his emotions from his expression. "No, don't worry, you're fine," I replied, trying to reassure him. Our conversation was briefly interrupted by the sound of wings flapping. Bobo, my small owl, was eagerly flapping his wings, eager to be let out to greet the new arrival in our home. I shot a quick, apologetic glance at Bobo, not wanting to draw any attention to him at the moment.
