Chapter one; The Hunt.

"Hey there! Stop!" A guard's voice echoed through the still night air, shattering the silence. I barely spared him a glance, my focus fixed on the closed-off area I sought. Desperation fueled my movements as I swiftly scaled the imposing stone wall that threatened to confine me. As I hoisted myself over the barrier, a low growl escaped my lips, a testament to the struggle and determination that consumed me. Bracing for impact, I landed on the other side with a grace that belied the searing pain that shot through my body. Clutching the precious bag tightly to my chest, I quickly darted into the dense forest, every step a painful reminder of the toll of my escape. It wasn't until I reached the safety of my humble abode that I realized my satchel was nowhere to be found. Determination flickered in my eyes as I resolved to search for it without delay.

Venturing back out into the enveloping darkness, I combed through the forest with single-minded intensity. Time slipped away unnoticed, and the encroaching darkness signaled the lateness of the hour. Perhaps a leisurely stroll might yield the missing satchel during my journey. As I traversed the shadowy paths, the symphony of nocturnal creatures accompanied my solitary expedition. From the scampering of squirrels to the haunting hoots of owls, the forest teemed with life.

Suddenly, a familiar shout pierced the air, halting me in my tracks. Before I could even form a complete thought, a riveting scene unfolded before my disbelieving eyes. The same guard who had attempted to thwart my escape was now in a desperate struggle with the unforgiving trees, his clumsiness betraying his compromised vision. Acting on instinct, I leapt onto a nearby branch, startling an elegant owl away in my eagerness. My heart pounding with exhilaration, I positioned myself directly above the struggling guard. In one swift motion, I plucked the constraining helmet from his head, freeing his vision to discover my presence.

Regrettably, my triumphant leap from the branch ended in a jarring thud as my knees buckled upon impact with the forest floor. Wincing through the discomfort, I forced myself to stand tall, unwilling to show any sign of weakness in the face of the guard's penetrating gaze. As he extended a tentative hand, a surge of wariness enveloped me, prompting a swift survey of our secluded surroundings. Tentatively, I grasped his hand, my grip tightening involuntarily as I braced for what was to come.

"Are you the one who stole the gem?" The guard's accusation hung heavily in the air, leaving me momentarily stunned. Swiftly collecting my wits, I sought to divert his attention elsewhere, determined to maintain the upper hand in this unexpected encounter.

"Yes- wait.. No? Pick your favorite answer," I hesitantly replied, my eyes darting around the dimly lit forest for any trace of the satchel that held the precious gem. It seemed to have vanished into thin air, leaving me with a sense of disbelief and self-doubt. "What?" the stern-faced guard inquired, clearly perplexed by my bewildered reaction to the accusation. "I could.. Help you look for it," I said with an enigmatic smile, trying to hide my true intentions. "If you want my help, you would need to, uh..." I trailed off, a wave of suspicion washing over me. I hesitated to offer my assistance, wary of the guard exploiting my aid to recover the gem I had secretly purloined.(stole) "It's not like you would be any help. I was already banished from the area for failing to protect the stolen gem," the guard interrupted my thoughts, locking eyes with me and speaking with an air of authority. "Where do you plan to go?" I asked, concealing my lack of interest in his predicament( situation). I couldn't trust him; after all, he was a guard... or was he? Is he trying to deceive me? "I honestly think I'll just find shelter, as my home was within the kingdom... Wait-" the guard started, cutting me off as I attempted to slink away. "Hmm?" I turned around, feigning curiosity. "Could you possibly let me stay with you until I find a place of my own? Since I was once a guard, I have some valuable skills that may be of use to you!" The guard sought to persuade me, his eyes revealing a hint of desperation.

"Uh i wouldn't mind but you would have to clean.. Uhm.. hunt for food.. Clean bedding?.." I said, listing things that would make me not want to stay with someone.
