Uzi POV
I was looking at my internal coding, trying to find what that 'magic hand' was all about, when I stumbled upon an imported file. 'Absolute Solver, interesting...' I suddenly heard the access panel being activated, and I quickly unhooked myself from my computer, grabbing a random book and pretending to read 'Moby-Dick 37, The Sequel.' And running 'nothing_to_See_here.jpg' on my visor, unaware that I was holding the book upside down. "Uzi, I need to talk to you." I looked up, seeing dad standing there. I spun my chair to face him, setting the book down. "Sure." He walked in, pulling out a folding chair and sitting down. "The doctor had some bad news." 'Just when we were starting to get along too...' I quickly closed down that memory file. "Y-Yeah? What happened?" "So in human biology, they have this thing called a heart, it beats at a constant rhythm which keeps their body alive." Tracking so far. "And the doctor said his stopped. For four whole minutes." I lost him. "Uh-huh..." He sighed.
"Basically, his systems shut down permanently, but they managed to bring him back online except now he's in an infinite sleep mode loop." I snapped my fingers. "Ah. Where is he now?" "The Medical Wing, but-" I was already out the door and down the hall. I ignored Lizzy and Doll, who were being their usual selves, stupid and preppy. I walked through the breach doors, running right into Thad. "Ack! Oh, hey Uzi!" "Hey Thad." I responded boredly. I kept walking through the white and red halls, occasionally peering into rooms. I groaned, looking inside the 58th room. 'Where is he?' I glanced left, suddenly spotting a WDF worker guarding a door. 'Why guard a patient's room, unless...' I suddenly spotted a vent in the ceiling. I looked around, before sprinting towards it, jumping on top of a trash can and throwing myself through the metal door. I banged my head on the ceiling, and rubbed it, the dark interior of the vent being slightly illuminated by my visor. I crawled forward, peering down into the room. I kicked open the vent, the small slotted metal falling to the ground.
I jumped down inside, peering around. It was empty, except for Micheal himself. I looked at him, his sweaty, trembling, gray skin causing me to run 'shocked.jpg' unwittingly. He had a multitude of tubes and wires running into his skin, most noticeably a wide, blue tube which extended down towards his face. His eyes were closed, but he was shaking badly. I stepped forward, unable to believe that only yesterday he had been standing in front of me, a fierce fire burning in his eyes, but now those eyes were hidden behind veils of pain and suffering. I grasped his hand, feeling the burning surface of his soft flesh touch my metallic hand. Suddenly, a bit of his skin came off in my hand, shiny blood appearing underneath the patch. I gasped and stepped back, realizing just how fragile he had become. The door suddenly opened, and I looked to see Dr. Z peering inside. "You shouldn't be in here." "I know, I just-" I sighed.
"I'm worried about him." "About a human? Never thought I'd hear those words come from you." Shocker. "He's made me realize that human's never really had it easy either. I just assumed that they were perfect individuals with no problems at all." The doctor gave me a look. "Nobodys perfect, especially him." She motioned to the form on the bed. "He's had it rough too, mother died in pain, father killed in front of him, his entire life was gone in less than a year, and you've been missing your mother since birth. How do you think it would feel to lose everything so quickly?"
...
"...it must've hurt more than it hurt me." She nodded, displaying 'solemn.jpg' on her visor. "His bipolar makes it worse. His outbursts are followed by depressive episodes that can last almost a week. Sometimes they're so severe that it's lead to their deaths." She sat down in one of the chairs, pulling one out for me. I hesitantly sat down, seeing her eyes focusing on me. "Uzi, do you want to know something?" "Y-Yeah?" "Our feelings, our personalities, it's all just code. Depression? I could lower that with the scroll of a mousepad. Sadness? Could erase it entirely. We can be altered in ways that make us think and feel different. That's what makes us better than the human race. They have to go to therapy, need pain killers, their body is much more venerable than ours." I rubbed the back of my neck, running 'severely_uncomfortable.jpg' involuntarily. "Y-Yeah, I guess I never really did take the time to compare our abilities at opposed to them." I looked over at his sweaty, gray form. "And now I might not get the chance to apologize."
Suddenly, I heard a gurgling sound, and I saw Dr. Z turn her head slightly, quickly running 'mortified.jpg.' I turned around, seeing blood pouring from his mouth. The monitor next to him started beeping rapidly, and Dr. Z jumped up. "Nurse Timins! A hand here!" Another drone raced into the room, and the two of them quickly converged around him. She placed a hand on his wrist, seemingly feeling for something. "No pulse, starting compressions!" I stepped back, seeing the other tilting his head back. Zimmins grasped her hands and began pushing down on his chest, while the other drone put a rubber device over his mouth. I gasped as blood streamed into the stem-transparent bag attached to his mouth, and the drone lifted it up to his face, obviously not believing what he was seeing. Blood continued to pour from his mouth, and Dr. Z grabbed his hand.
His skin slid off like a glove.
I recoiled, seeing blood streaming from the missing section of skin, and Dr. Z looked at me, a fearful expression upon her visor. "Uzi! You don't need to see this!" I sprinted out of the room, slamming my back against the door in shock. I quickly recollected my programming, peering through the window. He was shaking all over, and there was a red puddle spreading off the gurney and onto the floor. I pulled myself away from the window, a sick feeling coming from my core.
"Hey Uzi, is Micheal in there?"
I looked up, seeing Thad standing there. "Yeah but...I think he's dying."
