Yoongi splashes cool water on his face, washing off the rest of his foamy facial cleanser before patting himself gently with a towel.
He leans in to inspect himself in the mirror, tracing his fingertips along the raised skin of his scar. Even though it's been nearly ten years Yoongi has never gotten used to seeing his own reflection.
He scoops some moisturizer out of a yellow glass jar and carefully massages it into his skin. It was the same one prescribed nearly a decade ago by a dermatologist, who had informed Yoongi that it would help to repair the scar tissue and lessen its appearance.
While it did help some, unfortunately the damage proved too severe to avoid how raised the scar would become once healed. However, keeping the skin moisturized was still important, so Yoongi continued using it.
While it was hard even now to face his reflection in the mirror, Yoongi can still remember how he looked without the scar. Skin silk smooth and alabaster white, he was always paler than the rest of his family.
Of course, he has photos to remember how he once looked. Even though he was still Yoongi and the essence of his facial features did not change, he couldn't help but think that his appearance had been tarnished. The scar not only being a physical reminder, but a psychological one of that night.
With time, the inflamed appearance went away but it still left the right side of his face bumpy and disfigured. People would always continue to notice.
Yoongi would never forget that day. The scar would never let him.
A few days after his release from the hospital, the doctor had called and told Yoongi that he could remove the bandages.
He remembers how he had stood alone in front of the mirror in the bathroom. Namjoon had offered to stand with him but Yoongi had guiltily nudged the younger out, asking him if he could stay on the other side of the door instead. Namjoon agreed of course, lingering in the hallway, ready to barge in at a single quip of distress.
It was shocking of course.
Yoongi didn't know what he should've been expecting but nothing could've prepared him for the fresh massacre that was under his bandages.
He knew the man cut him, felt every single slide of the blade through his skin. But seeing it only confused Yoongi more. Even with the physical evidence permanently etched into his skin, he still didn't feel like it was real.
If what happened to him was real.
If the man was even real.
In the beginning, the cops kept their promise and patrolled Yoongi and Namjoon's neighborhood whilst searching for the people responsible. But after a few months of no sign and no threats made to Yoongi, the department pulled back the surveillance and the case eventually turned cold.
