Jughead's POV:

Fear.

It's the most basic, the most human emotion.

As kids, we're afraid of everything.

The dark.

The boogeyman under the bed.

And we pray for morning.

For the monsters to go away.

Though they never do.

Not really.

Just ask Jason Blossom.

Another fun fact about fear.

Sometimes it grows up with you

Or it curls up inside of you and tightens around your guts.

Each fall, Riverdale High hosts a Variety Show.

But this event is no mere student frolic.

Athena's POV:

I arrived at work after dropping off my brother at Betty's house. I settled my stuff down, I went to Tom's office.

"How is your morning going, Sheriff Keller?" I asked.

"We're by ourselves, no need to be so formal. And my morning is doing a little bit better now," Tom said.

"I know we're by ourselves, but let's not forget we're at work. I feel the same way, even after dropping Jughead off at the Cooper household," I say.

"What's Jughead doing at the Cooper household?" Tom asked.

"According to Jughead, having breakfast, but I know that's a coverup for why he's there," I answered.

"You think there's another reason that he went over there?" Tom asked.

"I know that there's another reason he's over there and if I were to confront him, he'd deny it. But I know if it was serious and needed help, he'd come to me," I answered.

"On another note, I have something to run by you," Tom tells me.

"And what's that?" I asked.

"I'm wondering how you feel if I told Kevin we are dating," Tom inquired.

"If it's something that you want to do, then I'm all in," I say.

"I'll tell him tonight at dinner," Tom said.

" Well, if you're telling Kevin about us, then I'll tell Jughead. I have a feeling that he'll tell Betty, who will tell Jughead," I say.

"To that I have no doubt," Tom said before we quickly said our goodbyes and started to do our work.

---------------------

At the end of the day, I receive a phone call from my brother.

"Hey Jughead, you okay?" I asked.

"I need you to pick me up from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy," Jughead answered.

"What are you doing over there?" I asked.

"I'll explain everything later, but can you?" Jughead asked.

"I'm on my way. And after you explain to me why you went to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, I have something to tell you," I answered.

"Sounds serious," Jughead pointed out.

"It kind of is," I say.
