The alarm blared out, disrupting the serenity of the room. She groaned as she sat up, the blanket falling and pooling on her lap and her hair in a complete mess in comparison to the bun she had put it in the night before. The blaring came to an abrupt end as she reached out and turned off the alarm, running a hand over her face. First day of school, and she's been forced into a big change; her family's newest status.
With the amazing change comes links to others, the most famous being the Mikage family. Now she's forced to stick around Reo as much as she could, parents say it's a good way to keep a good connection with the family, but both of them knew it was a futile attempt to get them closer in hopes of a "natural" relationship. The two were introduced a year ago, when it was too late to switch Y/N out of her old school, so the only way to have her and Reo around each other was having them hang out in their houses.
The first day they met, it was an instant bond... of siblings. They hung out in Reo's room, having butlers bring them snacks as they talked. Their shared experiences of how they're treated, how Reo gave her tips on how to act and how to react to certain people, they grew to see each other as close siblings. That was the only day needed for them to establish their thoughts on their parents' wishes and how to proceed with them, which the agreed upon solution was to play pretend. They'd hang around each other, give small responses on what they did, but no dating.
She checked her clock one last time before getting out of bed, automatically doing all her necessities as her mind struggled to wake up fully. Her bag, already packed and organized, was lazily slung over her shoulder as she made her way downstairs. Unsurprisingly, there was no greeting from her parents as she entered the kitchen. Lately, they've been too busy to tend to her personally, which is why they hired her personal maid, Scarlett, to take care of her. Speaking of Scarlett, she smiled as she saw Y/N enter the kitchen.
"Good morning, Y/N. I hope you're ready for your first day of school. Your parents have arranged for you to be outside in a few minutes, your food in on the table." She signaled to the table, which had a simple meal constructed of waffles, eggs, and milk. Y/N was never into the idea that once you're rich, you must eat fancy meals.
"Thank you, but what's the rush suddenly?" She asked, sitting down and taking a bite from her waffles.
"The Mikage's son is to take you to school today, as per request of his family." Scarlett giggled at the disgruntled sounds that tried to escape Y/N, only to be muffled by the food stuffed in her mouth.
"Of course, they're insane if they think we're going to actually get together." She shook her head and sighed, taking a trusted bite out of her eggs, "I have nothing against Reo. He's absolutely perfect, just not made for me. We never had that connection some people naturally have."
"Really now? You two are always together." Her maid asked with a raised brow.
"Well, yeah, they force us to be together. Plus, he's my friend, like a brother leading me through this whole thing." Her fork clanked with the plate, connecting with nothing there. She rolled her eyes and pushed away the empty plate, grabbing her glass of milk and just swishing around the drink.
"Then what are you looking for?"
That made her stop for a minute, thinking about the question. What was she looking for? Clearly, Reo was an option and a good one at that. Their wealth combined, his nice nature, their legacies, it would be a perfect life of easy sailing. But something just never sat right, as if something was just nearby, just out of reach. Reo really was perfect, but they weren't put together for them to end up together. They both knew it. She shrugged as she snapped out of it.
"Just someone else, someone I'm not meant to be with just because it's expected of me." She downed the milk, dramatic as always, as if she were downing an alcoholic beverage. "I'm not just a rich person, I'm not just my family's status, but everyone else keeps their eyes on me for that reason."
