I walk away from my home in the forest. It burns behind me I hear the shouts and I try to block it out. I need to escape from whoever or whatever caused this to happen in the first place. I think about how I could help everyone once we all escape this place and get to the gardens about a mile away.
I could help gather the berries but I'm not much help because I can't fly like most pixies. I've tried to fly in many ways other than that though, like the time I used dandelion fluff and floated off of the top of the rose bush. I always keep dandelion seeds with me now. That's how I got my name, Dandelion. But now I need to rest.
My legs were not made for running this much. I stop and drink some dew from a blade of grass. I spot a tall tree and a bird's nest about four branches up. I think it's Raven's nest. She would give me a lift to the top, if I give her more information about where I spot good nesting material. I start climbing up and up and up. I made it to the first branch and the second is only a few maple leaves away. I stop to rest and spot a nook to hide in in case of falling somethings. I start to climb up again and it seems like forever until I get to Raven's nest. It's night now and I spot her. "Raven!" I call, "can you take me to the top of the tree?"
"Are the straw fields full?" She crows,
"Yes they are, but the goblins are hiding near there."
"Thanks! I'll be careful over there. Hop up on my back and I'll carry you."
"Thank you Raven, there was a fire in my town and we are meeting at the garden about two and a half miles from here." I say as I leap onto her back. Then she is flying and before I know it we are at the top. I pull out a seed, but I feel too heavy to use it, it's been awhile since I've been gilding. I pull a leaf from the tree, it is a maple, I notice as I try to decide how to ride it. I think I might need a hour to build it, so I find my dandelion seed and poke it near an edge of the maple leaf. It goes through it. Perfect! I think. I poke another after another through the maple leaf, and I notice Raven has brought more up. "Thanks Raven!" I shout.
Soon my gliding contraption is complete. There are dandelion seeds all around the edges of the leaf and I used another leaf to make a roof and a piece of glass as a windshield as I often have seen on human cars. I sit on it and Raven nudges me off. Through the dusty windshield I spot the gardens and lean towards it. 'Almost there!' I think excitedly. Wow, this gliding thing that I have yet to name is easier to maneuver then I thought it would be. Suddenly a gust of wind blows me around. I smash into a garden.
When I finally wake up I find a note near on the tip of a rose thorn. It says:
Dear Dandelion,
we are all scattered about and we are sure you will be able to stay within the garden until one of us finds you. We apologise if there has been any inconvenience, but we will explain when we are all back as a whole in this garden. Try to stay hidden.
So now I need to stay here? Well assuming that they are all scattered then I suppose I need protection. I tear the rose thorn off. I can use this to fend off whatever scattered the rest of the pixies. I need to learn to fly. I flap and flap and flap my wings, but I just got a leaf to move slightly to the right. I need to do it faster. I flap as hard and as fast as I can. Nothing. I give up and scurry up the rose thorns and find a sturdy rose. It will be decent protection from the outer elements.
I wake up from my slumber with a start. I remember the last time someone got lost. It was Poppy. My town waited for about an hour, then left. Poppy couldn't fly either. After we saw the damage from before, we changed positions, so we were about a mile from wherever our old base was.
