Prologue

Kaede's POV

...

I opened a locker, suddenly stumbling out in a daze.

I fell on the floor.

"Ack!!" My head started to throb. "Oww.."

"Where am I? What am I doing in a classroom?"

Wait, this is probably just a dream. I just have to pinch myself.

I pinched my cheek..

..but that did absolutely nothing except make my head hurt more.

"Okay.. Let's just think this through and not panic," I said to myself.

Suddenly, the locker that was next to mine started making loud noises.

"Eek!?"

I was startled by the sudden noise. Then, a boy came stumbling out the locker. He was also dressed in a school uniform, probably also a high schooler like me. He was wearing a hat. To be honest, with the clothes he was wearing, he looked emo.

When he saw me, he freaked out.

"Ahh!"

"Hey! Don't freak out at me like I'm some sort of monster!" I yelled.

"Ah, sorry..."

"I'm sorry too, okay? I just don't know what's going on-"

"Rise and shine, ursine!!"

5 bears suddenly appeared in the room.

"Aaaahh!!" I screamed.

"..Stuffed animals?"

"We're not Monokubs! We're the stuffed animals!" the blue one remarked.

"Psst, Monokid.. You're saying your lines backwards," the yellow one said to Monokid, the blue one.

"No stuffed animals, us! The Monokubs, them!"

"Oh geez, it's even worse now..."

"Monokubs? What is going on?" I questioned.

"Let's tackle each issue one at a time!" the red bear said.

"..Where are we? This looks like a school.." I asked.

"This place is called the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles."

"This school was made for you sixteen cretins," the pink bear added.

The bears started rambling on about Ultimates and something about the Ultimate Initiative. I already know all of this since I'm an Ultimate too.

"You guys should get started with exploring this academy," Monotaro said.

"Also...you should introduce yourselves to the other Ultimates," Monosuke added.

"So long, bear-well!"

The bears then disappeared as quick as they had appeared.

So.. If there's other Ultimates like me in this school..

..then that boy over there must be an Ultimate too.

"Hey," I said, walking up to him. "I'm guessing you're an Ultimate too?"

"..Yeah. My name is Shuichi Saihara, I'm the Ultimate Detective," he said, introducing himself.

"What? You're a detective? That's amazing!" I complimented his talent.
