Anushka Kapoor stood in front of the massive glass windows of her office, the city sprawled beneath her like a maze of ambition and broken dreams. The mid-morning sun bathed the room in a soft, golden glow, but it did little to chase away the shadows that lingered in her mind. The law firm was bustling with the usual activity, a controlled chaos she had learned to navigate with precision. But today, the weight on her shoulders felt particularly heavy.

She glanced at the framed photograph on her desk-a picture of her with her father at her law school graduation. Rajdeep Kapoor's eyes sparkled with pride, his arm draped protectively around her. She was smiling in the picture, a genuine smile that seemed foreign to her now. Back then, she had been certain of the path ahead, confident that she could handle whatever challenges came her way. But the years since had chipped away at that certainty, leaving behind a woman who was still fighting, but often wondered if the battle was worth it.

Anushka knew what people said about her, even if they didn't dare say it to her face. "Nepo kid." The words were like a persistent echo in the back of her mind, a reminder that no matter how hard she worked, how many cases she won, there would always be those who believed she was only where she was because of her father. She had fought tooth and nail to prove them wrong, to show that she was more than just Rajdeep Kapoor's daughter. But the whispers never seemed to stop.

Her gaze shifted to the door of her office, as if expecting it to swing open at any moment, revealing Kabir-her ex, and now her greatest professional rival. The thought of him made her jaw tighten. He was a constant reminder of her past mistakes, both personal and professional. The relationship had started with promise but ended in betrayal, a wound that had never fully healed. Now, Kabir occupied an office just down the hall, a daily reminder of the man who had once held her heart and then shattered it.

The clock on the wall ticked steadily, each second a reminder of the mounting pressure in Anushka Kapoor's world. Seated behind the grand mahogany desk in her father's office, she was enveloped in a sea of case files and legal briefs.

"Good morning, Anushka," came a smooth voice from the door. Kabir Agrawal, dressed impeccably in a sharp suit, strolled in with an air of arrogance that made Anushka's jaw tighten.

"Morning," Anushka replied curtly, not looking up from her paperwork. Her mind was racing with thoughts of the Patel case, a high-profile trial that could make or break her ascent to becoming the head of the firm.

Kabir leaned against the desk, his eyes fixed on Anushka with an expression that was a mix of amusement and condescension. "Working late again? You know, it's not just about working hard, it's about working smart."

Anushka's fingers paused mid-typing, and she looked up with a steely gaze. "I'm doing what needs to be done. Maybe you should worry more about your own cases and less about mine."

Kabir smirked, clearly unfazed by her response. "I'm just here to check in. I hear the competition is fierce."

Before the conversation could escalate, the office door swung open, and Rajdeep Kapoor, Anushka's father, entered with his usual authoritative presence. His graying hair and dignified demeanor commanded respect, and he was a towering figure in the legal world. "Anushka, we need to discuss the Patel case."

Anushka stood up, her expression softening as she embraced her father. "Of course, Dad. Kabir, we'll talk later."

Kabir nodded, though his gaze lingered on Anushka with a hint of something unreadable. "See you around."

As Kabir left, Rajdeep settled into the chair behind the desk, his eyes scanning the files with a critical eye. "I'm proud of how you're handling things, Anushka. Your mother would have been proud too."
