Immediately she was brought back to the world from a loud voice. She stood up and ran inside.
Yes momma, she answered when she stepped into the kitchen.
Where were you? Lend me a hand in cooking, her mom requested.
Okay momma.
Both mother and daughter started cooking for dinner. After a while, they were done cooking. Amanda set the table and they started eating.
Hope you like the food, her mom asked looking at her.
Very well momma, Amanda replied revealing her teeth and cute dimples.
Okay child.... I want to discuss something with you but that will be after dinner. Meet me in my room, okay?
Amanda wondered what her mom wanted to discuss with her. She sighed inside and nodded her head as a confirmation.
Her mom stood up after eating and left for her room leaving Amanda alone in the dining room. Amanda continued eating her food and after a while she was done. She cleared the table and washed the dishes. When she was done, she left for her mom's room. When she got there, she knocked a few times but there was no response. She got tired of waiting and went inside. When she got in, her mom was focused on her laptop with her headphones in her ears.
No wonder. Thank God I came inside, Amanda said rolling her eyes. She got closer and tapped her mom on the shoulders.
Irene carefully removed the headphones to look at who touched her.
Oh Amanda, she exclaimed.
Momma, I knocked a thousand times but you didn't reply, she said pouting.
Oh dear, sorry about that. I was engrossed in my work.
Hope you are satisfied with the food, she asked turning back to face her laptop.
Yes I am. You wanted to talk, Amanda reminded her mom.
Sure... a minute dear, Irene said trying to off her system.
After a few minutes, she motioned her daughter to come closer to the bed and sit.
Mandy dear, Irene called.

I wanted to tell you a few things. You know you are getting into the university and even though you are on scholarship, you still have to pay for some expenses and that requires money.
Your dad has stopped sending us money for your upkeep and my job isn't really paying off. So, it's going to be hard on me. I need you to find a job.
