Chapter 1:

Boring. My life is boring. Wanna know why? Because we moved to the capital of boring, Jasper Nevada. That's what I was thinking when my brother pounded on my door.

"Wake up! It's time for school!" He said. Ugh, school another boring part of my boring life.

"Coming!" I said. I got up and got dressed.

"First day of school so I gotta wear something cool." Hehe, I rhymed. I got into my closet and pulled out some things. When I finished I ended up with a navy skirt, some black leggings, a teal shirt that said "Do Your Work, Don't Be Stupid!", some black sneakers and a silver sparkly headband. I went down stairs and looked at the clock, it read 5:45. I would have to eat and run. Hmm, probably toast. I love toast. When I got to the bus stop, my brother was already there. He was wearing a plain white t-shirt and jeans. The only color he wore were his red high top Converse. "Where were you sis? It's not like this is new for you." He said.

"New time zone remember? Or did you forget that we moved?" I said.

"Whatever. Here's my bus." He said.

My brother, Xavier was 19 so he went to the university in Jasper. If you haven't heard of Jasper I wouldn't blame you. It's like the most remote place ever. My dad just got a really good job here that pays really well. Jasper is no party. I'm not complaining but it's small, secluded, and there's not much of it. I shivered, it was a really chilly morning. I regretted not bringing a jacket. The bus wasn't much better cause the driver had the AC blasting and I had to sit right under the vent. I curled up on my seat so I could conserve my heat. The drive seemed long. When we arrived at school I noticed right away that it was really small. No surprise there. My thoughts were interrupted by a really loud "Hiya!! Never seen you before. Are ya new here?!"

"Uhh." Was my response.

I looked down to see a Japanese girl with black and pink hair. She was wearing striped leggings, a t-shirt and a tank top on top of that. It had some sort of weird character on the front of it. "Hello, I'm talking to you. Can you hear me?!"

"Sorry, I'm new here. What's your name?"

"I'm Miko, what's your name?" Just then the bell rang. It was loud, really loud.

"I'm late!" And I ran away towards homeroom.

"See you at lunch!" Miko called back just as loud.

Class was a snore fest as per usual. My first class was history. Most of it was stuff I already knew, so it was really boring. I sat next to a guy with red hair and snarky green eyes. I knew because he would not stop looking at me. When the teacher took a restroom break he started talking to me. "Hi, i'm Vince. What's your name?"

"I'm trying to work on my quiz Vince. If you wanna talk then you can wait until lunch." This seemed to make him irritated. He grunted and looked away. After first and second period we went to lunch. As I was headed there I saw a little boy with brown hair being bullied by Vince. "I said give me your lunch money loser!"

"Hey, leave him alone Vince!"

"Or what? You'll tell the principle?" I walked up to him and pulled him off of the little boy. I was pretty strong since I used to work on my grandparents farm. "I said leave him alone." "Whatever." Vince said. He stomped off towards the lunch room. I was about to ask the boy if he was okay when someone else beat me to it. "Are you okay Raf?" A voice called from behind. I turned around to see Miko and another boy running toward him. "Yeah, I'm fine" Raf said. The other boy turned towards me. He had kind blue eyes and a friendly smile. "Thanks for helping Raf."

"Wait" interrupted Miko, "Aren't you the new girl I met this morning?"

"Yeah, I ran off before telling you my name. That was rude, Sorry."

"It's okay." Said Miko. The older boy turned to me.

"Im Jack, this is Rafael, and you've already met Miko."

"Im Alexandra, but you can call me Alex. Wanna sit together at lunch?"

"Sure!" They all said in unison. I laughed, maybe this won't be so boring after all.

The lunch room could only hold about 200 people so it was kinda small. When we got in line Miko stared at me and told me to never ever get the mystery meat. She said she's convinced that it's cursed or something. We all laughed at that and then got pizza. The best thing is that the lunch ladies made the kids homemade chocolate chip cookies. We sat down at an empty table and ate. The pizza wasn't much better looking than the meat. It had barely any cheese and the crust tasted like saltines but it was okay. "Hey Darby!" Someone called nastily. We all turned around. It was that big bully Vince. "Ugh"Jack groaned. "What do you want Vince?" He shoved his way in-between me and Raf. I scooted over toward Miko instead.

"I see you've got a new member in your loser group, Darby. Wanna introduce me?" Jack looked mad and embarrassed. I glared at Vince. "If you wanted to know Vince, then you shouldn't have picked on Raf" I said. He scoffed and said "Raf here has always been giving me his money. It's tradition. Hehe."

"What?! Raf why didn't you tell us that Vince was picking on you?" Miko said.

"Maybe because he knows who's the boss" Vince said, laughing.

"Buzz off Vince you can't sit with us" I said. With much protest, he got up and left.

"Whew, I was thinking he'd never leave." Miko said.

Outside at recess I was swinging on the big swing when I saw a woman driving a deep blue motorcycle. It was a sleek design with what looked like real leather seating. She drove up to the school parking lot while no-one else was watching. She parked and then like a phantom, she disappeared! "Jack! Come here!" I whisper yelled. "What's up?" He said walking over.

"That motorcycle over there just rolled up with a woman on it, but then when she parked she disappeared like a hologram or something!" Jack sighed. "Are you messing with me?"

"No! I swear I saw it with my own two eyes!" He looked at me but then I realized he was really looking at my eyes. "Wow, I never noticed your eyes until now. There like sapphires."

"Don't change the subject on me Jack! You know something. Is that motorcycle yours?" I asked. Jack sighed again looking like he wanted to roll his eyes and said, "Yes, would you like a ride after school?"

"Would I ever!" I yelled. I let the hologram thing slide. For now.

After school Jack and I walked up to his motorcycle. As I looked at the bike I noticed that I was right earlier. Definitely genuine leather. "Wow, she's beautiful" I said.

"For a trike. Hehe." We turned around to see Vince walking up to his sports car. It was electric green with orange and yellow flames on it. "Later Darby!" He yelled, then drove away. Totally not following the speed limit. "Don't listen to him Jack, he's just a jerk with a flashy car" I said.

"I know" he sighed. "Now for that ride" he said. We climbed onto the motorcycle and took off. It was exhilarating. I felt like life was passing me by as we sped away. It was evening, the sun lowered into the clouds as we rode around. It was beautiful. I wished it could last forever. "Where do you live? I'll give you a ride home!" He yelled over the motor engine.

"On Weaver street!" I yelled back.

"What a coincidence! I live on Weaver street too!" He yelled back. On the way there I was pretty sure I saw Vince on the side of the road being chewed out by a cop. He didn't look happy. "It's this house right here." I said when we got there. My house was swan white. It always had a perfectly cut lawn and a variety of flowers running along the perimeter. My mother was a master gardener and she had a fairly large garden in the backyard.

"No way, that one right there? The house next to it is my house!"

"Cool." I said. As I went into my house I looked over to jack and he smiled at me. I smiled back. Maybe this isn't such a boring town after all.
