Hello and welcome to another Yo-han mystery! This one's a prequel... in theory. The setting started out "alternate history where WW1 never happened"; now it's turned into "alternate history where China won the First Sino-Japanese War and there was no Russo-Japanese War", with a few other divergences from real history.
Pinyin is used to transliterate all Mandarin words, except when the characters are using alternate transliterations in-universe (Chiang instead of Jiang). The Revised Romanization system is used for Korean names, even when alternate transliterations are better known (so one character's surname is Gim instead of Kim).
By the standards of this series, there aren't many trigger warnings. The main ones are for murder (obviously) and internalised racism.
