Harpies (or Furies as they're known in the north) are shapeshifting creatures and are the most widely spread species in oideyas. This species have two forms one being human and the other being a fury. In their Fury form they are slightly larger than an average human male and they look similar to vulchures. Each Fury tends to have a slightly different colour in their feathers but family relations are more likely to share a colour whereas non related Furies can be completley different colours. The most common colours found are red and purple and warmer earthier colours are vastly more common than cold colours in the south (the converse is true in the north) where the majority of Harpies live. In their human form they look very simmillar to normal humans, the main distinguishing features are their hair and eyes which tend to match the colour of their feathers. Some Harpies however have either plain feathers( such as brown or black) or in rare cases their human forms don't share feather colour, in these cases the Harpies can be told apart by their facial features. Harpies tend to have larger and rounder eyes, slightly pointed ears and sharp teeth. The Harpies are a fairly docile species and although a full grown Fury is capable of killing a handful of humans with little effort they tend to avoid conflicts and only prey on animals. This can ocasionally cause conflict if young harpies prey on livestock but it is usually dealt with between the parents and the humans in question and very rarely does conflict ensue.
Although most harpies live their lives in Fury form (only really switching over when nescessary, such as negotiations with other species etc.) Some choose to live in their human forms. These cases tend to be Harpies who have been exiled from their nesting grounds or in extreme cases have been shunned by the harpie society. These cases are not overly common but tend to be brought about when a harpie attacks another species without provocation or intentionally causing conflict with other species. Although not all of these harpies, or landwalkers as humans have dubbed them, have been exiled (some just prefer human society) but since they are generaly violent or disruptive humans are very wary of Landwalkers. This has digressed into a general distrust between humans and Harpies in general however other species have little problem with landwalkers. Landwalkers can be found anywhere but are more common in drouge communities where they are accepted.
Within the harpie society itself there is no law system as such they are a free roaming species however they have the maidren who is the 'strongest' harpie, however it has become more of an inheritance and it's not necessary for the maidren to have to prove themselves. It is not uncommon however for maidren's to be challenged or attacked by harpies who want the position. It is always to the death and the victor takes the mantle of maidren. It is this governing body who offically determines which harpies are exiled. Although this is the only oficial way to be exiled from harpie society only the most extreme cases are brought to the maidren, and often the culprits are killed instead. In most cases of harpies being exiled it is often them being shunned by those around them and fights will break out amongst them. There is a lot of in fighting within harpie society over territory breeding and nesting grounds as well as food sources.
Lunette is a secondary protagonist she is half harpie half human and as such was shunned by the harpie society along with her mother. Unlike other harpies lunette has the power to control her transformation, meaning that she can isolate her transformations (like demons) this has only added to others hostility to her as she tends to walk about covered with feathers but still in her human form.
