With dainty steps Lunnette made her way through the forest, it was late and she was wary of waking the already sleeping animals nearby. It was quiet and a cold breeze wafted through the trees causing her feathers to stand on end. To counteract the chilly night air she thickened her feathers and changed her hands to wings. The impact was instantaneous, heat flooded her body and she began to walk a little faster. As she neared their cave she heard a rustling noise behind her and a chill ran down her spine. Whirling around saw her mum crash through the trees and land in front of her before morphing into human form. Lunnette let out a sigh as all the creatures she had tried to let sleep scampered out of the way. Looking back to her mum who was currently running towards her she let out an even longer and deeper sigh before resigning to her mother's embrace.

"Lunnette, where were you? I was so worried."

"Sorry mum, I wandered too far and lost track of time."

Her mum sighed and took her hand, "you have to be more careful, what if you got hurt?"

Lunnette let out a scoffing laughter, "What creature in this forest could hurt me?"

"I wasn't meaning about inside the forest..." silence hung in the air as Lunnette caught on to her mother's warning and her cheeks flushed in shame. Her mother noticed this, "Lunnette you weren't at the village again were you?"

Looking at the ground she sheepishly replied, "Only on the edge no one saw me I swear."

"Lunnette you know how dangerous that is they hate us there!"

"I know I know I'm sorry, let's just head home."

Her mum let out a strained sigh before nodding her head and they head home together. Once they were back in their cave they both morphed back into their fury forms. Curling her tail beneath her body and covering her face with one wing Lunnette let herself drift off to sleep.

Lunnette woke to the smell of blood and wearily opened her eyes to see her mother chewing on a deer's haunch. She let out a loud yawn before stretching out her limbs and wings. She froze mid-stretch as she heard her mother let out a low growl, at the warning lunnette's head shot up and she noticed for the first time the human man sitting at the entrance of their cave. With her feathers standing on end lunnette opened her beak and let out a shrill shriek and readied herself to defend themselves. Before she could anything her mother let out a bellowing cry which startled lunnette, she looked at her mother curiously letting out a defensive whine. Her mother simply let out a low rumble and motioned for lunnette to talk to the man. Before changing back to human form lunnette let out a quiet hiss towards the man then fell to the ground as she lost her previous height. She made sure to preserve her dignity by covering herself fully with feathers. She suspected that dignity was also the reason why her mother was still in fury form as she couldn't cover herself with feathers. As she padded barefoot over to the man he stood and inclined his head on her arrival a courtesy she was not willing to reciprocate.

"Hello, my name is William, I don't believe I have the pleasure of knowing yours?"

"I don't see why you should."

The man seemed taken aback and Lunnette jumped as her mother squawked at her. Letting out a sigh she turned to her mother.

"Mother why do I have to talk to this man, can't you, if it's for dignities sake then you know there's stuff at the back."

Another squawk from her mother egged Lunnette into turning her arm into a wing and unfurling it in front of her mother. It didn't cover her full body in fury form but as she turned into a human she was miniscule in comparison. Lunnette watched as her mother scurried about and changed into human clothes. Once she was dressed she changed her wing back into an arm and then followed her mother as they stood in front of the man.
