The Sudden Change

Chapter 10

Lisa didn't know how to react. She had never experienced this kind of intimacy before—it was overwhelming, making her breath hitch and her body weaken. Her hands fumbled, searching for something to grasp onto as if her strength had drained away. She let out a shaky breath, her fingers tangling in Mingyu's hair, the other hand gripping his nape. What is happening? Why is he kissing her neck? The sensation was torturously slow, her sensitivity heightened, especially since this was her first time feeling anything like it—at least, anything she could recall since their first kiss.

"Gyu..." she whispered, her voice barely more than a breathy moan as his hand slid up, stopping just beneath her breast, and his tongue traced a delicate path along the sensitive spot behind her ear. "Hhmm aahh..." she exhaled, a long, trembling sigh.

The sound of her voice seemed to jolt Mingyu out of whatever trance he was in. His brows furrowed, his expression conflicted. He took a deep breath, struggling to gather his composure. He pressed his forehead against her neck, muttering a curse under his breath. The heavy silence between them was punctuated only by their uneven breathing, Lisa's especially ragged.

After what felt like an eternity, Mingyu pulled away, her heated skin still burning in his thoughts. He leaned back against the sofa, jaw clenched, covering his eyes with his arm as if trying to shield himself from the intensity of the moment. He needed to put distance between them, or he feared he would lose all control.

A minute passed before he finally looked at her—and damn, she was gorgeous, flushed and red, her expression as disarrayed as his thoughts. "I'll make us some tea," he muttered, his voice strained. She was still straddling him, and he gently helped her to move before standing up and quickly leaving her alone in the dimly lit living room.

Both of them had the same thought: What the hell was that?

Lisa, still under the influence of liquid courage, felt the adrenaline surging through her veins, keeping her senses on high alert. She wanted more—more of him, more of his touch—and the thought was maddening. Every sensation was so new, so intoxicating, that it made her consider decisions she knew she would regret when daylight came.

Meanwhile, Mingyu busied himself in the kitchen, desperately trying to focus on anything but Lisa. He turned on the faucet, letting the sound of water fill the pot, hoping it would drown out his thoughts. But before he realized it, the water overflowed. He wasn't thinking straight.

Frustrated, he ran his wet hands through his hair, wetting it. He couldn't help but to curse under his breath as he shut off the faucet. This is useless. What he needed was cold water—or better yet, a cold shower.

Ever since that night, her taste hadn't left his mind. No matter how hard he tried to bury the memory, the urge to kiss her again crept up on him like an itch he couldn't scratch. Lisa—his next-door neighbor—was nothing but trouble. A walking temptation. From the first time their eyes met, Mingyu knew she was going to be a nuisance to his mediocre life. She was younger, full of life, but in some ways, she reminded him of her—the mother of his daughter. They were different, but the resemblance was enough to drive him crazy. Mingyu had been successful in avoiding her until that fateful, gloomy night tangled their lives together.

"Gyu?"

Her soft voice pulled him out of his thoughts with a jolt. He hadn't even heard her approach. He blinked, still reeling from the whirlwind of his mind, and before he could gather himself, Lisa was right beside him. She reached up with a hesitant hand, her thumb gently wiping away the droplets of water clinging to his cheek.
