Lucy Kana was so excited for today. She couldn't wait. It was the first time her class would use the Galaxy Garrison's space shuttle simulator! According to the students in the years above her, it was like actually being in outer space. She hastily dressed in her orange and white Garrison uniform and scraped her long golden hair into a pony tail, before she raced out of her dorm. Her roommate wasn't even awake yet. Lucy didn't blame her. The sun hadn't even begun to peak through the curtains yet. It was a stupid time of day to be up and about, really. Lucy wasn't surprised to receive shocked looks from the teachers as she walked through the corridors. To see a student awake so early was like seeing a deer happily strut through a busy street!

Lucy walked through the halls as calmly as she could, using every ounce of self control not to skip along in excitement. When she entered the simulation room, she found it shrouded in darkness and quickly flicked on the light. It was funny to do that. She had the oddly thrilling feeling that she was doing something she shouldn't, even though she was doing nothing wrong at all. She just wanted this test to be perfect. She curiously wandered towards the pristine shuttle in the centre of the room. It was larger than she'd thought it would be. "Shuttle" was always such a small word, in Lucy's opinion. The door was open so she ventured inside. As she'd thought, the interior was the embodiment of futuristic technology. High tech computer consoles lined the walls, their screens black and dormant for the moment. Lucy neared the co-pilot's chair. That was where she would be sitting in the simulation. She'd originally wanted to be a pilot but she supposed co-pilot was good enough. She stared at the console for a moment, trying to memorise where everything was. If she was familiar with her console her reaction time would decrease by at least a third, making her more efficient.

A clinking sound suddenly echoed from outside. Lucy flinched and quickly poked her head out of the shuttle, scanning the room, expecting to see the utterly terrifying Commander Iverson prowling around. She had seen him berate a group of students in her class only a few days ago. Just standing in the same room had been enough to terrify her. To be the victim of his deadly assaulting tongue was too traumatic a prospect to even think about, and Lucy suppressed the idea with a shudder. Thankfully, she could see nothing in the large spacious room. "Must be a cleaner or something" Lucy muttered to herself, before she retreated inside the shuttle again. Slowly, she took a seat in the co-pilot chair. It felt slightly too big but she tried to ignore that. She resumed familiarising herself with the controls again. If she was honest, she had very little confidence in the performance of the team she had been assigned to. The pilot was a Keith Kogane, the most volatile unpredictable pilot in the entire year. He was a year younger than Lucy and had only been admitted to the Garrison due to his incredible piloting skills. At least, that's what the rumours said. Getting up so early in the morning to look over the simulator was damage control. If the team would fail, Lucy wanted to at least make sure she would excel individually.

"Enjoying yourself?" a voice suddenly asked.

Lucy jumped so badly she almost fell out of her chair. She whirled around to find a tall man dressed in the grey uniform of the commanders and high ranking Garrison members (the uniform designed to petrify students) stood in the shuttle doorway, watching her. He looked only a few years older than her, but too mature to be one of the older students. He had black hair that fell into his eyes, pale skin, and a handsome smooth face. His eyes were the strangest part about him. They were completely black, perhaps tinted with a smudge of iron grey. They caught the light of the room outside, giving the illusion that they were shining like polished glass. The impression was rather mesmerising, like when one walks among a particularly breathtaking stretch of nature. Lucy's breath caught in her throat. There was no mistaking who this man was. His face was on every poster pasted up in the rooms of the younger cadets. He was the well regarded hero of probably every single Garrison cadet Lucy's age and below. He had broken every record. He had passed every assignment and more with flying colours. He was the role model teachers urged their students to be half as good as. He was Commander Takashi Shirogane.
