Doctor Stephen Strange ran into the hall, panting, looking around frantically.

"Wong!" he called out. "Bring the boy!" Immediately, a cot floated from the top of the stairs, towards Doctor Strange who stood at the bottom of the stairs, waiting. The sound of running in the hall behind him drew his attention towards the open door. Humanoid figures came into the hall. They were nothing but dark silhouettes, shuffling into the room, bringing with them, a dark, heavy feeling, malevolent weight that spelt out nothing but danger.

The cot stopped floating beside Doctor Strange and the baby in it cooed lightly, drawing Doctor Strange's attention. Doctor Strange stared at the child. Young, innocent, helpless. Then he returned his gaze to the silhouettes closing in on them.

A burst of protective rage roared through his mind, replenishing his energy. He reached out and the air between him and the monsters shimmered like there was a glass wall there.

Doctor Strange had conjured the Mirror Dimension, shielding them from the incoming danger. The creatures' arms elongated into black whips and they struck at the wall with amazing force, force that would easily overwhelm the structural integrity of a thick steel wall, but it had no effect on the shimmering barrier.

All of a sudden, the monsters stopped attacking, and stepped back. Confusion swept through the hall, engulfing Doctor Strange, Wong and the other magicians present. Then they all began to hear thudding sounds, like the footsteps of a large monster. It was faint at first, but slowly got louder and louder, till an eleven foot tall humanoid silhouette stepped through the door. It had glowing scarlet eyes, and its fingers were stretched to resemble claws. Suddenly, a portal opened beside Wong, and a sorcerer came through.

"The six Avengers have fallen," she said, panting, a large gash evident on her forehead. "At this rate, Shuma-Gorath will conquer our world!"

"Wong!" Doctor Strange said. "Take Ethan and use the spell we prepared. He is no longer safe in this universe."

Wong intended to proceed with the plan, but the large silhouette's eyes flashed and from them, came two beams of scarlet energy. The beams collided with the Mirror Dimension and there was a large explosion, a blinding flash of light, and Doctor Strange, already exhausted having faced Shuma-Gorath head-on, passed out.

Some time later, Doctor Strange woke up in darkness, buried under tonnes of rubble, but there was a force field around him and the cot, preventing the debris from crushing them.

"Who put up this force field?" he muttered, then crawled over to the cot and managed to prop himself over it and look down at the baby. He narrowed his eyes. "Was it you?" He raised his head and saw a swirling blue portal....

"That's an interdimensional portal!" he mumbled. "How can he do these things? And simultaneously?"

He looked at Ethan who cooed lightly, smiling at him. Doctor Strange smiled back and lifted Ethan out of the cot gently and stepped through the portal with him.
