As I got dressed for school that morning, nerves twisted in my stomach like a tightly knotted rope. Something felt off, a palpable unease that clung to me, refusing to let go. I knew I had to face Jin and his gang, and the thought sent a chill down my spine. I couldn't run away; I had to confront whatever was coming my way.
Walking through the school halls, I recalled my encounters with the Shadow Blade. "Trust the inner power within you," he had said, and I tried to hold onto that as I approached my locker. But the moment I arrived, my friend Miles approached, his face a mix of concern and disbelief. "Man, are you in trouble? Jin and his gang heard you talked to the police. They said they're looking for you."
Panic surged through me, but I forced myself to remain calm as I tried to open my locker. Just then, I heard Jin's voice slice through the air. "Yo, snitch!"
I looked up, my heart dropping as I saw Jin and the rest of his gang surrounding me. The fear I felt pooled in my gut as Jin pushed me against the lockers. "Haven't you heard what happens to snitches?" he sneered.
"Get off me, man!" I shot back, trying to maintain some semblance of defiance.
"Kivon, you a pussy ass nigga," Jin taunted. "You better not open your goofy mouth to the cops."
Suddenly, something shifted within me. It was as if a surge of energy surged through my body, igniting every nerve ending. I felt a strange force taking over, and without thinking, I made a fist. The world around me slowed down as I watched my hand move, almost as if it had a mind of its own.
Before I knew it, my fist connected with Jin's face. The shock on his expression was priceless, and he was sent flying across the hallway, crashing against the lockers with a sickening thud. His gang stared at me in disbelief, their bravado evaporating in an instant.
Fueled by the sudden surge of confidence, I stood tall and commanded, "What the hell are you looking at?"
But before I could process what had just happened, one of the gang members, Caine, drew a knife and lunged at me, aiming for my face. Instinct kicked in, and I knocked the knife from his hands, my movements fluid and decisive. Without hesitation, I followed through with a punch to his stomach, sending him crumpling to the floor.
The remaining gang members, now realizing they were outmatched, started to reach for their guns. But at that moment, the sound of security guards echoed down the hallway, prompting Jin and his crew to turn and flee in a panic.
As the chaos settled, the hall was filled with shocked expressions. My classmates looked at me like I was some sort of freak, awe and fear mingling in their eyes. Miles rushed up to me, his voice frantic. "Where did you learn to defend yourself?"
I didn't respond. The adrenaline still coursing through me made it hard to find the right words. Instead, I simply walked away, my mind racing. The encounter had awakened something deep within me, something I was still trying to understand.
I had faced my fears and found a strength I never knew existed, but the reality of what had just happened weighed heavily on my shoulders. I wasn't just fighting for myself anymore; I was fighting for my community, for everyone who had been silenced by fear. And as I walked through the school, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of my journey as the Shadow Blade.
