harper closed the textbook on her lap, rubbing the weariness from her eyes as she surveyed her room.
it had been a long day of nursing classes, but she was home, safe and sound.
she leaned back against the pillows stacked against the headboard, letting out a contented sigh as she began to unpack her backpack.
the phone on her nightstand buzzed, the sound piercing through the quiet of the room.
harper's fingers flew over the screen, her eyes lighting up as billie's smiling face appeared. "hey, beautiful," billie greeted, her voice warm and inviting.
harper's heart skipped a beat at the affectionate term, a silent reminder of the love they shared. "hey billie," harper replied with a grin, settling back against the pillows.
billie's next words caught her off guard. "i was wondering if you could come to this party tonight?" she asked, her tone a mix of hope and pleading.
harper's brow furrowed in confusion. "party? where did you even hear about this?" she asked, genuinely confused.
billie's smile turned mischievous. "from gio, remember? she texted me about it last night. please, harp, you have to come."
"you know i dont really do the party stuff."
billie's face fell, her smile faltering as she sensed harper's hesitation.
"please, harper, i really need you there tonight," she pleaded, her voice soft and earnest. "it would mean so much to me."
harper's heart ached at the desperation in billie's words, her resolve wavering in the face of her bestfriend.
"i..i don't know, billie," she murmured, her gaze dropping to her lap.
billie's expression turned pensive, her brow furrowed in a silent debate with herself.
she knew harper's aversion to parties, but something about this invitation felt different.
"just for an hour, harper," she offered, a gentle coaxing in her tone.
"i promise, it won't be that bad. And think of how happy i'll be to see you there, dancing with me and the others."
"alright," harper conceded finally, a small smile playing on her lips.
"i'll come, but only for an hour, and I'm not promising anything crazy." billie's relief was palpable, her face lighting up with joy.
"thank you, harper," billie breathed, her relief evident in the sincerity of her tone.
"you won't regret it, i promise." harper chuckled, her heart already racing at the prospect of dancing with billie in front of their classmates.
"i guess i have no choice now," she joked, trying to lighten the mood.
billie's laughter was contagious, her smile widening as she leaned in closer to the camera.
"i'll pick you up at 8, okay? be ready." she says, her playful wink sending shivers down harper's spine.
as the facetime call ended, harper couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement at the prospect of the night ahead.
