"billie i don't understand what you're not getting."
billie sighs frustratedly running her hands through her hair."i don't understand you harper, one minute you want me then the next your saying we can't talk because of your parents."
harper hears billie words biting the inside of the cheek knowing billie was right.
"i just don't wanna lose them.. i can't lose them." harper say her voice barely above a whisper.
billie looks at harper her expression unreadable as she furrows her eyebrows.
"lose them? harper you barely like them.." billie states throwing her hands up. "you'd rather lose me? someone who actually has been there through all that abuse and trauma they given you?"
billie laughs coldly "but right you dont wanna lose them." she sighs shaking her head.
billie's words pierced through the air like sharp daggers, cutting deep into harper's fragile psyche.
harper's eyes welled up with tears, her lower lip quivering as she fought back the sob threatening to escape.
harper burst into tears as her words come out in a ramble. "i just don't know billie, they've been here for everything regardless of all the pain they've caused me. i just can't.. i don't wanna hurt them."
"i'm just... scared, okay? i don't know how to do this, to choose between them and you."
her voice cracked, betraying the anguish she tried to hide. billie's expression softened as she closed the distance between them, cupping
harper's face with gentle hands.billie's thumbs brushed away harper's tears, her touch soothing yet firm. "so what do you want, fayfay? I can't keep waiting for you to decide."
harper's gaze met billie's, a fragile understanding flickering to life in their depths.
she knew billie was right; the waiting game had to end. but the weight of her family's expectations, the pain of their actions, still held her back. "i... i don't know," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of her heart.
billie's grip on harper's face tightened slightly, her thumbs stroking the girl's cheeks in a soothing rhythm.
"okay, harper," she murmured, her voice low and gentle. "we'll figure it out, together. but first... i need you to know that i'm not going anywhere."
billie leaned in closer, her breath ghosting over harper's lips. the air between them seemed to crackle with anticipation, the unspoken tension building to a breaking point.
harper's eyes fluttered shut, her chest rising and falling with rapid breaths.
she knew what was about to happen, and yet, she couldn't find the will to pull away.
billie's lips brushed against hers in a feather-light caress, prompting a gasp from harper's parted mouth.
the kiss deepened, billie's tongue slipping past harper's lips to explore the warm cavern of her mouth.
harper's hands came up to twine in billie's hair, holding her close as their tongues danced in a sensual waltz.
billie broke the kiss only to press her forehead against harper's, their chests heaving in sync. "i love you, harper-" she whispered before getting interrupted by someone clearing their throat.
both of them snap their heads to the sound seeing harper's dad who's arms were crossed and a disappointed angry look on his face.
billie's eyes widened as she turned to face harper's dad, a sinking feeling settling in her stomach.
"harper faye washington." her father said firmly , his eyes darting between both girls.
the man's displeasure was palpable, his arms crossed over his chest in a defensive posture.
billie knew immediately that she was the focus of her.
"dad, I can explain," she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. billie stepped back.
