Xolani

I hadn't slept in 2 days.
To say I had a pounding headache was an understatement.
I had been in my office; trying to finish a pitch and getting ahead of my workload.
All I needed now was rest.

Being the eldest child was one thing but when you're orphaned and your brothers only had each other; I find myself being both brother and parent to them.
This could be exhausting at times.
I had to pour into everyone's cups but I had no one to pour into mine.

I loved my brothers though. I would do anything for them.
That's why I had been working so hard to completely shift from the chaos that came with the path we chose.
The blood money.
The wars.
The deaths. Too many deaths.

I was getting tired. I knew that we couldn't leave fully. It didn't work that way; some things were like vows that couldn't be broken.
I understood that and I respected that.

But I didn't want my youngest brother, Luyanda to grow up and become like us.
He had a bright future; he didn't need blood on his hands.
We were groomed into this life. I wouldn't do the same for him, he has a choice.

As I drove on the highway, making my way home. A get a from Bullet, my right-hand man.

"Bullet."

"General, umfowenu uthume amadoda ukuthi ayothumba owesifazane. She's unconscious and it looks like they hit her, she's bleeding." (Your brother sent men to kidnap a woman)

The throbbing sensation in my head got worse. He didn't have to tell me which one it was. Mpilo was like a walking headache.
He was the most trigger happy and never seemed to think before he made decisions.

I sighed, "Kuphi?"

"Warehouse."

With that I made a u-turn and drove over to clean him mess- again.
-
Walking over to the door, there were guards walking around the grounds. Two were standing at the door.

I nod my head to greet them and they opened the door for me.
Walking into the warehouse, Mpilo is nowhere to be found.

Bullet meets me halfway and I can visibly see the irritation from this whole situation.

"Where is he?"

Bullet grunts, "I'll lead the way, but you need to clean up this mess with the girl."
I pinch the bridge of my nose and I take a deep breath.
Let's get this over with.

We find Mpilo shouting at two of our men. His back it towards us so he can't see us.
He was heated, no he was vexed.

"One of these days, ngizonibulala nonke!!!!" (I will kill you all)
His hands were clenched as he exploded on them.

"Not before ngibulala wena." (I kill you) I retorted.
Mpilo's body stilled at the sound of my voice. I knew that he feared me, but the fear seemed to go out the window when he made stupid decisions like this.

"Bafo-" He turned around and smirked at me as he masked his fear with cockiness.

"Where is the girl?" I didn't have time for his games.

"Girl? Which girl?"
I wasted no time and pulled out my gun since he only responded to it.

He lifts up his hands as he surrenders,
"Ayikho inkinga, ngizokukhombisa" (There's no problem, I'll show you)
His attitude was starting to piss me off.

I put my gun back and we followed him to another room. When we get there I see a vaguely familiar face.

I've seen her before, walking around ekasi. Her already fair skin looked even paler.
They had tied her to a chair and covered her mouth with a cloth.

Her head hung low and I could see blood on the back of her head; one of them clearly hurt her.
My jaw clenched as I continued to assess the damage.

Everyone understood my rules, do not hurt the women. Women already had it hard, I didn't want to contribute to that. I didn't tolerate that level of incompetence.

I walked back to the them. I wiped my hands with my face as I let out a frustrated sigh. Mpilo should be grateful that he was my brother.

"Which one of you hit her?" I commanded
There were two of our men standing in-front of me with their hands behind their backs.
Suddenly they were mute.

"KHULUMANI!!" (Speak)

Their eyes popped open. They tried to keep composure but they failed. I could see one's hands shaking and the other looked like he was about to faint.

"U..uhm.. G-Gener..al, E ne e le..." (it was)

"Ovaaa!!" (Speak)

"E ne e le Jumbo."  (It was Jumbo)
He points to the guy next time to him. My eyes fall on him.
The guys looks like he's constipated. I can practically smell the fear on him.

Without hesitation I take out my gun and shoot him,
'Bang'
'Bang'
'Bang'

His body falls on the floor,

"HAYII, XOLANI! Bekufanele ukwenze lokho!??" (Did you have to do that?)

I point the gun at him, "Ngiyintanga yakho? Do I look like your friend?" (Am I your agemate?)
I squint my eyes at him; I was clearly loosing my patience and this headache wasn't helping.

"Cha." His head hangs low

"Wena-" I point at the other other guy "You can leave." He quickly scurries away.
As he runs I shoot him and he falls down.

"XOLANIIII!!!" I ignore him.

"I gave you one job. ONE JOB. To handle izindaba zemali ekasi! Not to kidnap a WOMAN!" (Money affairs)

"You begged me for this job, but you failed.. miserably at that." I was beyond defeated by this.

"Kodwa Bafo, this was part of the job! She's not some saint. Her mother took out a loan for 500k a year ago; she hadn't paid a cent. Because the mom is dead, the debt now falls on her."
"My men warned her, they told her to pay but she ignored us; taking advantage of my kindness and patience."

I looked at the women. Something wasn't right about what Mpilo was telling me. She didn't seem like someone who'd behave that way but then again you never really know a person.

"So to stroke you ego, you tried to kill her?" I emphasised on the kill part.

"N-No! I just wanted to scare her."

"Okay and HOW DID THAT WORK OUT?" My head was aching. I rubbed my temples as I tried to think of a plan.

Suddenly I hear moan, as if someone is in pain. My head turns to see the women waking up.
'ahhhh'
Immediately panic washed over her,

As she looked at her surroundings and realised what situation she was in; she went into fight mode.
She tried lifting her hands and legs but they were tied down.
She moved left to right, up and down but nothing worked.

Her screams were muffled by the cloth.
I could see the tears rolling down her face.

The chair she was in began shaking at her movements.
I walked over to her and as she saw me her eyes opened wide.
I could see the fear in her eyes, my heart broke for her.

What was I going to do.
