______________________________________________Raven's POV
I’ve always prided myself on being the one who has it all together the beautiful and kind girl everyone looks up to.
At least, that’s the version I present to the world.
It was a Friday afternoon, just like any normal day.
The sun poured through my apartment window, warming the clutter of textbooks and clothes scattered on the floor.
I was supposed to be writing a paper due next week, but my mind was ahead to the plans I had with my friends later.
A much needed to escape from the pressures of school.
As I typed away on my laptop, notifications pinged incessantly from my phone.
I ignored them, my focus locked on my paper.
The notifications continue so I have no choice but to mute it.
Then something caught my eyes.
It was the headlines were alarming the reports of a strange illness that spreading through the city, people acting violently, and hospitals overwhelmed.
I shrugged it off, convinced it was just another sensationalized story.
'That was just a way for the media to grab attention...'
I had more important things to worry about my grades and my social life.
...
......
.........Later that night, I met my friends at the bar.
Laughter and light-hearted banter filled the room.
But as the night wore on, the atmosphere shifted.
People checked their phones constantly, the tension palpable.
Conversations turned to the news, and unease spread like wildfire among the patrons.
A few people murmured about the chaos on the streets, the attacks on those who fell victim to the illness.
I sensed something but I pushed the nagging feeling aside.
“Is it really that bad?” I asked Elaine, my friend, when the conversation turned serious.
She leaned closer and whisper.
“They’re saying it’s like a zombie virus or something. People are going crazy, attacking anyone who gets close to them.”
I laughed, brushing her off.
“That’s ridiculous. You know how the media exaggerates everything. It’s probably just scared people reacting to something new.”
But a flicker of uneasyness ignited deep within me, one that I couldn't ignore.
The night dragged on, and we continued to drink, but the atmosphere had soured.
My phone buzzed incessantly with alerts.
I could see my friends exchanging worried glances and some leaving the bar in a hurry.
I felt an urge to reassure them, to maintain the facade that everything was fine.
After all, I was the one who always had it under control, right?
Then it happened.
The bar’s entrance burst open, and a man staggered in, bloodied and disheveled.
My heart dropped as panic erupted around me.
“Help… me…” he gasped, collapsing to the floor.
His wild eyes were filled with terror, and I felt my blood run cold.
Before anyone could react, a group of five people rushed in behind him, their faces are twisted, their movements are jerky and unnatural.
I couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing this wasn’t possible.
They were no longer human, just vessels of primal instinct, driven by an insatiable hunger.
My stomach churn as I saw them eating peoples.
Then chaos erupted.
Glass shattered, and screams filled the air as people rushed for the exits.
I froze, my mind is racing.
The bar erupted into panic as tables were overturned, and the once-lively atmosphere turned into a battleground.
I’ve always been good at handling tough situations, but this was different.
My instinct kicked in and I forced myself to move.
Elaine grabbed my arm.
"Raven, we need to go. Now!" She screamed.
My legs moved before I could think, pushing us through the frantic crown.
Bodies slammed into us from all sides, the sound of screams and broken glass clouding my focus.
I kept my grip tight on Elaine, forcing a path toward the back exit.
I glanced over my shoulder, I saw it.
Eyes are vacant and gnashing it teeth as it tackled a woman into a ground and tearing into her flesh.
Her screamed louder before it abruptly cut off.
I swallowed the bile that rose in my throat, forcing myself to not look back again.
"Raven! Let's go!" Elaine's voice jolted me.
I blinked and saw we were at the exit.
The door was within reach, but as we pushed through the exit door, I realized something.
There was no safety everywhere.
The sound of sirens, more screams and chaos echoed from every direction.
The infection wasn't isolated to the bar, it was spreading fast.
"Where should we go now?" Elaine panted beside me, her face pale under the streetlights.
